This is a point, I had intended to make, so, thank you! I don't believe in taking the foot off the gas. Why would anyone want to give the other team any momentum? Okay, we lead by 14 points and that feels like a safe lead. I don't think any two-score lead means we get conservative with the football. Yes, I get the idea of draining the clock; but, that's similar to playing prevent-defense. It really begs the question, why would you?
Running the ball for 100 yards in the second half is not really taking your foot off the gas. running the ball and not making first downs is going conservative. The thing is, you have to be successful when you run the ball. Running the ball when you can do it inevitably breaks the other team.
Whatever you gotta do to keep moving the chains Keep the ball out of their hands and keep scoring points - on the ground or through the air, whatever is working.
Didn’t we lose a lot on defense between 2008 and 2009? That 2008 defense was awful good from what I remember.
Nope. All returned The only player we lost in the 2 deep was Percy. Though, he was probably the most electric player in the country. A big loss.
Ironically, then hiring Dan Mullen exposed Dan Mullen's limitations. Was it actually that Meyer's offensive cupboard was bare beyond Mullen?
He said defense. And yes Percy was a game changer when you had to deal with him and Timmy along with the killer.
You were thinking of 2007 in your earlier post. Our D was one of our worst ever that year (until the 2020s- ugh) and gave up a lot of points and yards. However, we had Tebow all games and Percy for many games and we could outscore most teams despite our porous defense. . (Except for Auburn- but Mullen was not on his game due to a recent hospitalization.) And Tebow won the Heisman. But back to the D- There was a LOT of complaining in these parts- some even saying Meyer should have played more guys in our 06 season and this was his fault for not developing them. The problem there is that we had many close wins in 06. And playing young guys for development instead of our seniors would have probably turned those close wins into close losses, and close losses would have meant no SEC or national title. But that was met with a shrug- Our D sucked in 07 and people wanted to bitch, so they did. So many fans are so stupid- its amazing really.... But in 08 those 07 players were a year older and our D was quite good- giving up only 12.9 points per game and ranking 4th in the nation. 09 should have been good, and it was in many ways, but Meyer sort of slowly imploded during the year and then really imploded after our Bama loss. But yeah- you meant 07 in your earlier post. Memories are sometimes not the best around here. Like Percy being the key to beating Bama in 08 when he didn't even play!!!
Referring to me and Percy and 08, 09 and I never said he played in Alabama. I said our offense was much better than o9 because of Percy
You listed the loss of Percy as the primary reason we got beat by Bama in 09. I said if that was the case then how did we beat them in 08 without Percy. That's illogical. I would say the difference between 08 and 09 was a lot of things.. But frankly even if Percy had come back in 09 Addazio would have wasted him. And we wouldn't have beaten Bama.
I said our offense wasnt nearly as potent in 09 because we didnt have Percy. Just because we win games without him doesnt change the fact.
Yes, everyone except Carlos Dunlap in the SECCG against Bama. He was suspended because of his drunk driving arrest the week of the game. A huge loss, literally and figuratively, and might have cost us the game. Our only loss that year. Because of DUI charge, Gators suspend defensive star Carlos Dunlap for Saturday's SEC title game
