    I'm of mixed opinion here.

    is it worse to;

    a) Honestly admit that you love government intrusion into all aspects of education and the private sector, just because it is led by a former reality TV show felon whom you absolutely adore ........ ...or

    b) Scroll right past and pretend this type of laughable, third world, disgraceful nonsense isn't happening .......... as you wait to opine on some other issue, where you can project a sense of great patriotism, integrity and values.

I mean, let's be honest; at least OP posts with refreshing honesty; he doesn't care about anything except what Donald J. Trump likes and wants. Some others here? With their vote and support, they effect the same result as OP. They just pretend to care about our country or things we should value while doing so.

Hey Bill, how will you feel when the libs use this as precedent and just to own the pubs they go after religious schools once they regain power someday?

Those of us with college kids (I have two and one on the way in a few years), really don't want the government nosing around private schools.

You are only saying this because it has no impact on you now and likely won't impact you when the left returns fire years from now.

As a conservative, it sickens me watching people celebrate the short term "wins" that will no doubt come back to haunt us when the pendulum swings.

He won the Electoral College, "all the swing states." You know, that's how American "democracy" swings. The fine folks in Michigan, Ohio, PA, etc., call the shots.

It terms of Chinese foreign students, yes. They are well known for stealing intellectual property and there are questions about whether or not this is state directed and required before they are allowed to come over here.

On a broader scale, it is hard to see this as anything other than the Trump Admin outlawing Harvard and other Ivy League schools from taking their highest paying customers.

Is this directed solely toward Chinese students or even all Chinese students at all institutions? Or is this a punitive action directed solely at one institution?

Yes he would. He still got the majority of the votes.

And can we stop using just one definition? Majority has multiple definitions:

    Noun:
1.c: the greater quantity or share

In politics it is simply the winner:
    3. the group or political party having the greater number of votes (as in a legislature)
    Definition of MAJORITY

He didnt get the most votes in 2016, and I'm certain he wouldnt have got a plurality if he hadnt been elected once already. I stand by what I said.

Really you should be going after all Trump voters here though, not just Bill. Bill is just the only one to be honest about it. They've all brought us the same result, and not a one of them (here, anyways) speaks out against vile stuff like this.

Or actually, you should be going after Republicans. They enable Trump, almost down to the person. They enable this too.

Just seems so weird to me to only go after the honest person. Unless I accidentally deleted the threads where the rest of them speak out against the crimes, grift, un-Americanism, and ethical sewage.

According to Harvard's website, 844 were from China.

    Germany was next at 343.
    India was next with 321
    France was next with 233
    Canada was next at 214
    Italy was next at 205
    Brazil was next at 195
    South Korea 182

and on and on. Over 140 countries totaling just over 10,000 students.

When this idiot is done, it is not going to be safe to travel anywhere in the world as an American. What an absolute a-hole.

    Literally the opposite of conservative.

I remember when my fellow conservatives were the ones saying keep government out of our private schools.

Your point makes sense when private schools don't accept federal dollars. But when students are getting federally backed student loans and/or federal research grants than the federal government gets a say.

One of the biggest competitive advantages we have in the world economy is our high end schools.
Handcuffing them will do long term economic damage to this country but it's hard for Trump and his followers to see that. Amazing.

My oldest and his GF both had cuts to their research programs. Both are GT undergrads, she is working on her doctorate at Tufts, he on his masters at GT but doing research at MIT.
As soon as this stupidity started they were approached by foreign companies and offered alternatives. The best will always have options and are being pulled away from the US.

And that say is apparently that the felon Donald J. Trump can enact rules, or have his corrupt administration do so, solely depending upon his personal vendettas.

Thanks for being open about it, though.

What the heck does that have to do with international students (who aren't eligible for federally backed student loans and are generally not the recipients of federal research grants)?
