Qatar Airways signs deal to purchase 160 Boeing jets during Trump visit Qatar Airways signs deal to purchase 160 Boeing jets during Trump visit This has to be a benefit to hard hit Boeing going forward. Airbus can't be happy about this. Stock is up about 15% in the last week.
Unless the U.S. guvt is subsidizing the planes, what would Airbus have to complain about? The issue with Boeing is their actual ability to deliver planes. According to this they delivered roughly half the planes of Airbus last year. Boeing delivered 30 airplanes in December, but gap with Airbus widened in 2024 Presumably without another labor interruption and unless there’s another safety issue, they should be able to get those numbers back on track this year (or at least close that gap). They had a backlog of literally thousands of planes.
good thing they don't have a worldwide supply chain so subject to trade disruptions due to tariffs and political uncertainty have to wonder how these planes were priced, or if that detail is completed yet
I just don't understand why we keep bailing out Boeing. They haven't delivered anything of value in over a decade, and they require immense handholding for the govt to help them out in labor and schedule overruns. I refuse to work with them in the federal govt anymore. That company needs to be split up and sold off. Too much corruption at the top.
They are the only domestic commercial aircraft producer left I believe. And the deal was from Qatar, not the US.
Who knows. I don’t see any downside to Boeing for this huge order. Boeing may be “struggling” but their backlog was at like 5500 planes. So it’s not like they need to sell at a discount. Qatar Airways is actually the govt of Qatar so even if they are paying full market price for the planes there might have been some other deals, like defense, which I’m sure Qatar also wants or may even prioritize (hey, you sell us some upgraded military gear and our state airline will buy a bunch of planes!). Maybe it’s a straight up deal, but I suspect theres more. I don’t have a problem with it either way provided we didn’t do anything too crazy/corrupt. It’s the reality of dealing with these mid east petrol states where the govt owns industry. So in a sense it actually is a chance for Trump to “make deals” state to state. The problem is when he turns around and treats allies like shit because their leaders don’t ingratiate themselves or have state-run companies to do “deals” with. It isn’t a good contrast.
As does Boeing. Boeing has the order backlog (somehow!). 5500 plane backlog. But they need to get their shit together.
WIth the current slowdown in air travel, they should be able to catch up as some airlines may cancel orders.
They are not the only US based aircraft manufacturer. There are several others given the chance would do a much better job imho. They don't go into that space because they can't compete with Boeing getting bailed out by the taxpayer every single time. They are the biggest and most inept company I've ever had to deal with,.and believe me, I've had some doozies. The Qatar deal was commercial, but tucked away in the Saudi deal is defense FMS sales to Boeing.
Yeah problem is no one wants to touch their stuff because it's junk. Space X and Blue Origin don't want it. Bezos thought about it for a bit but decided not to go that route... Smart move.
Lockheed did a long time ago but decided to focus on defense. Gulfstream and Textron are capable of building an aircraft 737 size or larger.
So basically de-merge Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. Their defense side is in the red about 4-5 Billion a year. Doesn't get talked about as much as the commercial side. The problem is convincing the corrupt politicians to stop funding these morons. Someone else should be given the chance to develop better products.
McDonnell Douglas also did commercial aircraft. I was under the assumption, incorrect based on your info, that the military side was carrying the commercial side. (for Boeing)
Good for Boeing, its workers, its suppliers, shareholders, American economy, etc. Adjacent topic: Are there some slimy issues around Trump’s plane and state sponsored terrorism? Yes. OT: I think Qatar has been, on balance, taken a serious position about being a global influencer for more positive Islam virtues — perhaps their propaganda is working. Their sports washing has actually worked in their favor.
