Clearest signal yet that sports betting is fully in bed with pro sports now. I think maybe some of the old guard writers keep them out for awhile, but it might only be a matter of time.

Rose, 'Shoeless' Joe HOF-eligible as MLB lifts ban

Pete Rose, greatest Reds hitter of all time

Shoeless Joe took $5000 to throw the 1919 World Series in favor of the Cincinnati Reds.

    I like both these guys

do not believe, could be wrong, that jackson took money. his crime was not reporting the fix was in , as he knew. believe he hit.400 and had the only homerun.

Sorry but when you compromise the integrity of the game you shouldn’t be further lauded. Rose is the hit king with or without this “honor”, that’s enough.
But as a society our rules, decency, respect etc. become less and less relevant every day.

He admitted accepting 5k. He played well in meaningless at bats and admitted to just "poking the ball around" or something like that.

I'd agree with you until recently. Now every major sports broadcast is blasted with sports gambling. They advertise in game live betting. Announcers talk about it. Its all gone to shit and they're all in bed together, integrity of the game be damned. So no reason to punish Rose anymore, as the high horse is gone.

Doesn’t matter for two reasons. First, when Rose did it it was universally known as the cardinal sin and he did it anyway. And as bad, he lied about it for 20 years. Second, even if the general tenor around betting has changed, players have to be held to a different standard or the game’s very integrity is in question. The Alabama coach got fired last year (?) for the exact same reason and not a soul on earth defended him. It can’t happen from a manager especially. But he’s not the beloved Pete Rose, who fails the character clause several times over:
Again I’m not surprised, everything is excused these days, especially if it’s for someone you like. Just the way of the world.

Not really, I think any endeavor that almost by definition. promises losses over time for 99 percent of the people participating shouldn’t be allowed to sponsor any team or sport directly or indirectly…but it still doesn't change the fact that what Rose did crosses a very different line.
Th voting when it happens will be fascinating to me.

I'm not really a big Ross fan, as I mentioend above he's a collosal asshole. I even experienced it once personally. I just think enough time has passed and if the league is going to hardcore get into bed with sports betting, I have a hard time saying keep him banned

That being said I don't think he stands any chance of getting voted into the HOF anytime soon .

I thought that all of Rose's gambling occurred when he was a coach/manager, after his playing days were through. If that is the case, then I could see letting him in based on his playing record, with no influence from his managing stats, which weren't that great anyway.

Steinbrenner comes to mind although my first thought was Daniel Snyder. Not only was he a royal asshole he was also a grossly incompetent owner.

I dunno. Aside from praising Hitler, being racist to several ethnicities, and rubbing dead dog fur on her players she did win us our last World Series.
