Well, most likely that's because it was SOS normally winning 10+. We became spoiled. Currently, 9 would feel incredible.
To me, all a 5-star player represents is a player who has matured sufficiently to be almost a guarantee of being effective at the next level. Really no different than a Top 5 rookie in the NFL. Just because they are a proverbial "man playing against boys", it does not imply that they are on a trajectory for future stardom at the next level. Everyone matures at their own speed, especially mental toughness and maturity. And as an aside, and I realize this may not help my argument, but I always asked myself whether there are college coaches who have gotten fired due to incompetent player evaluation, based on what those players become at the next level. My prime example, and again it may be as simple as bad injury luck (see Anzalone) or mental maturity, is James Harrison. You play at Kent State, went undrafted and you become the terror you were? You didn't eat the other teams when they played against you? It just doesn't make sense. And as I always say, no one knows who or where elite talent (at your level) will manifest. The main difference between good, great and elite teams are the number of good players you have. Football is NOT basketball. Even Lawrence Taylor needed an effective team around him to do what he did. And you could probably say the same thing about Emmitt Smith.
10-3 can get you in the CFP without winning the SEC. TN proved that last year. It should be the minimum Gator fans should be wanting/expecting. Being happy with anything less is what makes us equal with KY/USC/Missouri.
That also means there are three teams likely in the playoffs that already beat us. You really cant have more than a close loss or two to be taken seriously.
I don’t expect to win 10 every year but I sure do miss winning the SEC championship game once in a while! That was sure lots of fun. 2008 seems like a long time ago. With the expansion it definitely gets harder and harder.
Hell, I miss beating Georgia and just making the sec championship game. In the current format, you don't even need to win the sec to make the playoffs.
So you would rather we didnt make it? I didnt enjoy the beatdown vs Nebraska but still enjoyed the season and the trip to Phoenix. Unless you win it all, you're probably gonna end the season on a negative note.
Off topic, but ya'll noticing Tre Wilson is getting alot of preseason hype buzz? Hearing he is jacked! Hope the buzz becomes true, he is injury free this year and explodes! Could be the X man on offense this year! Ok back to the past......carry on. Lol
