Either we have elite intelligence in our sports program or they have easier than normal academic schedules for our athletes. Has to be a combination of both.

Nothing like cooking the books...do players even still go to class, now that they are rolling in money?

Ask yourself: Have you ever taunted a fan of another school over the football team's GPA? I didn't think so.

In this era of professional college athletes soon to become employees, who gives a dern.

Isn't it a bit more impressive that at a time many of them don't need to get an education more than ever, it would appear the team is excelling?

I've been quite vocal that I agree with your general position in regards to not being "student" athletes anymore, but credit due where it is due. Also, generally I celebrate those who choose to learn in a time where ignorance seems to be celebrated.

Going through Business School in early 1972, one of my professors talked about how Georgia Tech had offered incentives to their teachers to get grades up a few years prior. They were, and are, a top shelf academic institution. They monetized for their teachers to work extra hard to get their students a higher level of success. That means higher grades. So they did. A funny thing happened….Cs and Ds dropped dramatically and As and Bs took a tremendous jump. Professors began to get some serious bonuses, whatever. More money. Common sense showed that the students didn’t become smarter overnight, the scoring and grading became more favorable. Shocking, huh?
Now our academic support facility for athletes is tremendous. Any student who works with his counselors and tutors now has a great chance to achieve a decent point grade.
