Bill - we're all waiting with great anticipation for you to specify exactly what "damaging" action under the Biden administration equals gutting such a valuable agency as NSF. Is dismantling health, safety, education, research and innovation really what you stand for? What you voted for?

Oh and btw, the President DOES NOT have constitutional power to dissolve or greatly alter an agency created by Congress.

Legal Team With Ties to Trump Investigating NSF’s ‘Leftist Ideology’

America First Legal Foundation, a nonprofit run by former members of President-elect Donald Trump’s first administration, is suing the National Science Foundation for records related to the agency’s prioritization of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

According to AFL’s lawsuit, the NSF received the records request in 2023 but has failed to produce them in a timely manner, an alleged violation of the Freedom of Information Act.

The suit, filed Oct. 30 in federal court, comes after Senator Ted Cruz, a Texas Republican and ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, published a report accusing the Biden-Harris administration of politicizing science.

The report claims that since Biden took office in 2021, the NSF has awarded more than $2 billion in federal funding to thousands of scientific research projects that promoted DEI or “pushed neo-Marxist perspectives about enduring class struggle,” with such awards allegedly growing from 0.29 percent of all new grants in 2021 to 27 percent by 2024.

Government bureaucracies tend to be corrupt. There will always be more problems than money to solve them. Spending money inefficiently on leftist causes is not the way to go. Sometimes you need to clean house and restructure.

For sure that is true. Diversity, misinformation, climate change, among others have all received attention. My friends were even warned not to use the term “biodiversity” in their proposal to study reefs. Biodiversity. One of the core concepts of ecological science.

 

I briefly skimmed the 2023 NIF’s grants by State, and it is clear that the Blue team academic institutions and hubs for more research oriented universities are getting, on balance, more of the grant. So, this is a case of “hurt your brother to make you feel better about yourself”.

So, why didn't Trump do something about it? Why did it take an executive order from Biden to put a stop to it?

If we set aside your fascist propaganda for a second and look at the facts:

1. NSF only provided ~ $5M in funding. The remainder of the funds were provided by DARPA, ONR and the Army directly. Why no oversight at the Pentagon?

2. Almost all of the funding in question was granted BEFORE 2020. Why wasn't this outrageous behavior stopped by Trump??

3. This guy had published his intention to retire nearly a decade early and move back to China and start an AI Research Center, yet the US military kept funding him and presidents including Obama and Trump kept right on letting it happen??

But yes, we should definitely destroy the NSF because the military funded a Chinese born researcher who worked for a US university for many years.
