Exactly this we can’t look poorly coached at all and we looked poorly coached till about game 6 last year.
I hear you on both counts. Like most, I'm nowhere near the fire BN camp, or even looking in that direction. Who would with the roster he has put together and the obvious improvements that have occurred with staffing? But he has seemingly staked out being the lead offensive force of the program as his raison d'etre - and put himself squarely on the spot by doing so with at least a portion of the fanbase. I personally believe that Billy will be less hands on, to some degree, when DJ spreads his wings against some big-time programs and starts doing insane stuff that no one can coach. If DJ is blessed with the strong OL that we hope for and he's ready to rock at a level we haven't seen yet, nobody will be talking about the need for a new OC or HC. JMHO. GG, BEAT EVERYBODY!
Point of order: expecting real progress and identifiable demonstrable results, isn't negativity, or hating on Billy Napier--it's actually respecting him, inspite of past results. Lowering expectations because he's Billy Napier, seems to me to be patently insulting. He's paid multi-million dollars each year; he's not a short bus special needs child--he's a well compensated professional tasked with a high pressure job. You measure him by his results, and you do not lower your expectations to accommodate a poor hapless muti-millionaire that you made so (MM, not "poor n hapless").
Yeah yeah, of course there’s nothing wrong with, or “hating Billy” about expecting “real progress”. Nobody is pushing “ lowering expectations” , and I got no idea what you’re talking about with your “poor hapless millionaire” thing. My only point is that I’m sick and tired of all the posts that come from “if he doesn’t get it done this year he’s gone”. I’m not going to go any deeper than that. If you don’t get that vibe from the post I replied to, no big deal. I did, and apparently so did a few others on here Go Gators.
Sure, the last 2 months of his job performance was on par with what you'd expect. That leaves 34 other months not counting this season. And I'm not being negative or pretending my opinion matters, it doesn't and I said that in my original post, I'm just observing the games and general program. I personally hope he turns it around since he's cost the athletic association like $30,000,000 and 3 years of time. If he doesn't it's back to the drawing board.
And of course he’s done absolutely nothing with the job for 3 years except stuff 30M in his pocket. We’re no better off now than we were 3 years ago. Got it You just doubled down on your negativity about our program. @92gator , you get what I’m saying any better?
That was game 5 (after the "Bye Week"), we beat Mississippi State 45-28 in Starkville two weeks prior.
Can you point to areas where we are markedly better in a sustained way? Commenting on performance isn't negative or positive, it's a comment on performance. Negative would be saying he's a moron with no ability. I very much think he could work out well and I like his idea of building and aligning a program. It's obviously been a rough road though and you start to wonder if this is it
I will feel good if we win 8 games and I hope the staff can look good doing that. If they can do that without dropping any game for management errors, even better. The first two we are supposed to win. We have Miss St, Kentucky, and Florida State. Those three need to be wins, and should be. That leave seven games to win three. Not too much to ask. I don't believe I'm setting Napier up for failure. He should expect that on the low end.
If we are 4-2, things will be looking up. 6-0 would be better of course but realistically, id be happy.
