I completely agree. If my team is going to beat yours I want to beat the best you’ve got. I grew up thinking everybody was that way.
Old school. I tried to teach my kids that. I think that they got it. As fans we can have lots of hate on the other team but in my experience the competitors on the field of play have much more in common and respect each other. and it isn't hate. I used to fence competitively and often times I would have to compete against guys that I trained with and were friends. During the bout it was all business but afterwards it was drinking beers together. You saw that with Clayton at the end of the National Championship game. Total class.
