FBI Launches Criminal Investigation Into NY Attorney General Letitia James

A criminal investigation is under way into New York Attorney General Letitia James after questions were raised about her real estate and mortgage activities.

“This is being handled at this time by main [Department of] Justice and the Albany FBI field office,” said U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III, who oversees New York’s Northern District.

“We stand prepared to act in the capacity that we need to when and if we are informed there’s a charge to be made. Unlike Letitia James, who unethically ran around the state campaigning on getting Donald Trump … my office conducts itself in a manner that is proper and professional,” he said.

“Letitia James, who illegally weaponized her office to pursue politically motivated witch hunts, now expects taxpayers to foot the bill for her alleged misconduct,” the statement said.

This corrupt Attorney General is going down

lol ok sure. Look, if she committed a crime, and they can prove it, then too bad for her. But let's not pretend this anything other than retribution for the FBI to get involved in something like this.

You know the signal that this isn't a real investigation? The alleged crimes didn't happen in the Northern District of New York.

It's a frivolous investigation part of the Trump campaign of retribution. It's harassment and a waste of FBI resources but then retribution against enemies of the Donald is the reason that Trump selected Kash Patel as Director of the FBI, certainly not because he was a well qualified candidate for the position.

It is definitely retaliatory. How do you define frivolous?

Yes, all true, but James did stretch the bounds to be able to charge Trump with felonies and would have known that Trump would come after her if he got back in power.

Funny stuff. Maybe she can appoint some judges to slow walk her (non-existent) dozens of felony indictments. :)

In any case, it's fun to see Trump supporters pop up and (pretend to) support law and order. When it's not being applied to the felon they voted for. :)

I think you're confusing her with Fani Willis, the Georgia DA who prosecuted Trump. James never charged Trump with felonies. She did pursue a civil action against him for improperly valuing his properties using a lower valuation for tax purposes while inflating the value of the properties when he used them as collateral for loans. The argument was that he wasn't guilty of any wrongdoing since he repaid the loans to the bank that loaned him the funds. Using that rationale a person who embezzles money from his employer for gambling, wins and repays the employer before the embezzlement is discovered did nothing wrong because the employer never suffered a loss.

Among other reasons she is being investigated for mortgage fraud based on a mortgage that she acquired in 1983 and ended up repaying in full over 20 years ago long after the 10-year statute of limitations on mortgage fraud had run. It also appears that the alleged fraud was a harmless error not an attempt to knowingly deceive the lender.

That was Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan DA. It wouldn't surprise me if Trump's boys are reviewing every financial transaction with which he was party in attempt to find some type of wrongdoing too although it hasn't been made public.

It's fun to see a literal convicted felon weaponize all levels of justice to persecute his perceived enemies. This is what taxpayers are paying for.

I thought getting a loan under fraudulent circumstances and then paying it back in full was the equivalent of an embezzling from a company to gamble and then paying the company back after the bets ended up paying out.

Regardless, the Trump Admin will likely be following her around on a daily basis trying to figure out a federal charge for jaywalking or anything above.

The crime of fraud requires intent. Not going back to look but it seems what she did (on one of the documents her father was incorrectly described as her spouse) was more of a clerical error than an intent to deceive. As another poster pointed out when this issue was first raised on this board several weeks ago other documents related to the purchase the deed itself being one correctly designated James and her father as daughter and father. As a point of information when my son purchased his condo we had to co-sign on the mortgage because it had been less than two years since he graduated from college and he didn't have much of a credit history even with a FICO score near 800. I assume that was the same with James when she bought the apartment back in 1983.
