Thanks. I saw the pitching rotation for this weekend on another site and was about to put the names up, but you beat me to it. I sure hope Coppola can get through 5-6 innings. I would hate to have to go too deep into the bullpen Friday night, but I guess Coach O'Sullivan wants to get Peterson & King a little extra rest after the way last weekend messed things up.
I’m not sure they’ll try to stretch Pierce out that far even if he’s rolling. It would be nice though.
Can't even imagine that they have any hope of getting 5-6 from Coppola. Maybe 50 pitches/3 innings type thing. It will be great for us if he is ready for that type of outing because, as you said, otherwise this could really tax the bullpen on Friday night if it is a competitive, winnable game.
Exactly—how long did it take Peterson and King to reach the 5-6 innings plateau? I feel like he will be somewhat satisfied with one time through the lineup and anything else is gravy.
The scene was the CWS of 2005. Alan was making his second start of the CWS and was facing ASU. He went down with a completely torn hamstring on the mound. To say it was agonizing to watch is a vast understatement. As this happened, a short distance to our right the Texas Longhorn baseball team sat together. When Alan went down they stood up together and cheered…. I will never forget or forgive their choice of character. In any game—we cannot beat them bad enough. Gators, reach down to your very core and put it on them at their house.
I’m hoping that those fans were not saying those things near u or Jan . That would have been a major problem…
Puzzling SP choice to start a key series. Coppola - in a best case will give you three innings (maybe pitch into the 4th) -- and then you have to use lots of Pen arms to finish. King would be the better choice -- he pitched only a few innings last Saturday before the rains and should be ready to go. Go all out to win game one of the series and use your top guys out of the Pen to secure the W. Plus this weekend's SP rotation throws off the rotation vs Bama next weekend. Not clear on the logic for starting Coppola.
At this point in the season you’re talking about moving Peterson and King by one day next weekend. If that’s the plan today then they’ve got the week to adjust their throwing schedules and should be good to go.
Except that the Bama series is Thursday-Saturday. Which further complicates the rotation using Coppola, King, Peterson this weekend.
I would expect to see Peterson and King moved forward to games 1 and 2 respectively with Coppola moved to game 3 for the Bama series but that’s just me. Of course next weekend’s needs will play off of this weekend’s results.
A couple of years later their closer on that team (JB Cox) and Alan were teammates at Trenton in the AA Eastern League with the NYY. Alan asked him about their team cheering when Alan went down with the injury. He responded you’re damn right we cheered—we didn’t want to have to face you…. Like I said—Texas
