Exactly. They have coffee in the morning with one eye on kids near their lawn and the other on X to find out what offends them.
If it meant we could buy a refrigerator that was built like they were in the 1980s, then sure. But all this will do is make the products more expensive, less reliable and more cheaply made. Unless we actually make things that are not throw aways, EPA regs need to stay.
The weird thing thing we should totally expect by now is MAGA voters not saying a single word when Trump does stupid things like this that are more harmful than helpful. It's sad. We're in Trump's America.
I know, right. Doesn't this move make you want to rage? Lol... I like appliances that are energy efficient.
Win for the libertarians. More push for Americans to purchase product insurance and Subscribe to third party trust verification services. OT: How long before Underwriter Lab drops their non-profit mission?
I was more thinking the companies could come up with a system they all agree on and possibly fund it as part of their marketing budgets.
That damn woke Energy Star!!! Good riddance!!! I feel so much safer now now that my sensitive feelings won't be hurt by that mean, woke Energy Star. Maybe we should file a class action for all the mental stress seeing an Energy Star sticker caused MAGA snowflakes.
Nothing is more liberal woke than seeking out more efficient appliances. Maybe, as a result of these brave actions, a few less kids will become gay. Cue Lee Greenwood. . . . (mike drop)
Possibly, but it does invite cheating and shirking from the larger companies especially. That makes their system less believable to customers.
I've lost confidence in industries ability to regulate themselves. One of the few things I think govt needs to actively involved in
At least not until they get the provided talking points from their handlers. That's usually the trend. Trump does something stupid. Silence from the usual suspects. About 8-24 hours later - after Tucker/FOX/Etc. have created the narrative - they return to parrot the things they were told to parrot. Rise. Repeat. Every Single Time. MAGA = Polly-Want-a-Cracker crowd. No intellectual agency whatsoever.
Except so much of regulation is the result of lobbying and a lot of it is designed to gatekeep for the PTB, not protect consumers. Or it can be both. I remember reading that Heinz was one of the ramrods for food regulation because he was upset that competitors were able to put inferior - oftentimes dangerous - product on the shelves next to his (where he spent a lot of money on QC) and undercut his prices.
Energy Star Appliances May Not All Be Efficient, Audit Finds Old article and I don't know how much oversight has happened now that so many years have passed but I wouldn't trust companies ratings to be accurate without a 3rd party verification and even then....we know how payoffs work. That said, I don't see the point of this and its another stupid issue that doesnt affect the change where people need it most.
I'm surprised to find out gov was involved in the 1st place. I think this could easily be done via the private mkt. Fun fact. 80% of public companies voluntarily were audited prior to it being mandatory. It should be obv why both sellers & buyers are better off. There are all kinds of private certifications, etc. Further, data >> gov regulations in many cases.
but, self reg is not required. I rely on the mkt (not gov or self reg) for almost everything. for almost everything, I don't check licenses, gov certs, I rely on reviews or 3rd party cert.
