The link below is @ 12 minutes. I have considered the sluggishness on some downs to be poor execution. This guy has an interesting take.
Speaking of practice, I wonder how much the indoor practice facility has hurt our home field advantage. We used to dominate teams when they would come to the swamp and many wins weren’t because of spurrier’s wizardry. In a lot of cases, we just physically beat them in the heat because we were superiorly conditioned. Now, if it’s too hot to practice we go inside. In the 90s, I find it unlikely a player 450 lbs could make it through the grueling outdoor two a days. I know we have to be careful because of all the rules now but I believe it has made a difference. Our home record isn’t what it used to be. I wonder what percentage of practice is held inside now.
I have wondered that as well. I think the heat was a factor in our 90s dominance. Not the ONLY factor, of course. But the disparities in our home vs. away winning % suggest the heat was part of it.
Interesting. But were our losses because we were exhausted or more our staff didn't have the right players(Grantham) or we failed to execute and coach during games?
Someone on another site mentioned Soft bosses always have soft employees. The comment seems to have some merit just based n coach own admissions. Hopefully we have everything ready to grind some cane.
3rd and distance comes down to how good youre qb is at getting the ball down the field. Obviously we have struggled mightily but Lagway made some progress. Hopefully having his legs this year will loosen up some of that coverage too.
But I mean do you really consider this team soft? Napier has made lots of mistakes and there are a lot of things to focus on that need improvement but I feel like we'e going down a logic rabbit hole here. 3rd down issues > possibly because of practice > soft practice makes soft teams > we're soft. Personally I would not in any way, shape, or form say this team is soft and I would also say the issue on 3rd down isn't from being soft. A soft team does not get blown out at Texas and then turn around and win two top 25 games and finish 4-0 with an absolutely hyper aggressive defense. We got a season high 7 sacks against LSU and then got another season high in sacks against FSU. In fact, this might be the least soft Florida team in years.
I look at soft more of players and coaches demanding and performing excellence on every snap, including practices. The coaches previous comments on not enough competition in practice, is an example.
The video analysis had to do primarily with the offense. It is not a secret that the offense has been inconsistent. The explanation in this video seems to be a valid concern. My 2 cents.
Discussion….beautiful.. Analysis..even more more beautiful. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. OOOOOOOOH YEAHHHHH. ..me not care. Me want points. Me want CBN to do whatever and win games. Me want ten wins. Ohhh yeeahhhhhh. Me want eleven wins. Ohhhh yeahhhhh. Me don’t care about anything else. CBN can..or cannot win games. His only yardstick. everything else is bs. Just talk. We talked to Urban on what CBN should do to get a national championship. He said..put a buckeye in your pocket.
We lost a player by being ignorant of player overheating. When Spurrier was in his early college years, state high school coaches believed having water at practice made players “less tough”.(soft is a real insult to an athlete so I will not use it.) They attended big seminars over the summer of 64. Doctors flat out told them players needed water, heat stroke and death are real things and…the high school coaches got the message. Things changed overnight. MIAMI FLORIDA. Exhume the Bear and he could describe his first practice session with his Texas A&M team. THe Marquis de Sade would have approved. Half the team quit in a month. Years later they had a reunion. The Bear was afraid he was going to be murdered.
I had a hard time focusing on the expert’s analysis. I was too distracted by his resemblance to Ted Lasso.
