Nope. It is why I don’t like him and think UF could have done better. I don’t see him being capable of navigating a very challenging path forward as a research institution needing to recruit and needing dollars. Second, since this is a sports oriented platform, I question how good he is at managing risk of highly paid coaches and athletes. As others have said… longevity at a role of leadership equals institutional stability.

Univ of Mich has an annual athletic department revenue of $255 million. UF's is approx $200 million. Don't see an issue with athletics unless the old guard UAA undermine him and Stricklin.

I hope you are right. Revenues follow the product. Gators are on a significant up trend.

In the current political environment, I'm not at all sure UF can do better.

So UF poaches the President of maybe the 1st or 2nd best public school in the country and you are bitching. Sounds like a proper Gator fan to me...

Haha. Bro, you got some Michigan envy? Did you go there or something? Michigan has been highly ranked for decades. Ono had nothing to do with that ranking. UF is Johnny come lately to the top 10. It takes a special talent to keep it there. Again, bitching (as you call it) is about questioning his capability to check the boxes for UF. He checks a few but not all. He’s a short term safe pick for the Trustees. But hey, It’s done so let’s see how he does.

I’m still giddy that we didn’t hire a woke war warrior.

    Still seems fine to me.
I dont know that much about him but that is a lot of turmoil that anyone would have trouble handling to everyone's satisfaction. Wiggling out of congress was probably smart. o_O

I don’t know about a buyout, but reportedly we raised his comp from $1.3M to $3M.

I'm not. The country is going to shit now that all the "woke" people are being purged from government. Turns out that the "wokes" and "DEI hires" were the competent ones. Who would have thought that expertise would be a good thing?

Given that the vast number that did go were axed, yes! LOL. I am still not convinced primarily because of research and whether he can retain talent. He might be more Plastic Ono than Santa Clause.

You seem overly negative when I find little cause to be. From last fall this was in the article on his extension. I get it was a press release but they also didn’t have to extend him, much less for that long if he was doing a poor or even mediocre job.

“We are extraordinarily fortunate to have President Ono as our president,” said Regent Denise Ilitch, who noted that discussions over a revised contract had been ongoing in recent weeks.

“He continues to lead with strength, grace and genuine care for the entire University of Michigan community. We’ve seen him step up countless times to ensure the U-M meets its mission to serve the people of our state, advance knowledge and make ours a more equitable and sustainable world.”

As part of the president’s annual October performance review, the regents noted the university’s continued climb in enrollment, academic reputation, research excellence and global rankings. They also recognized Ono’s work in planning for the university’s future and his efforts to fuel job creation and economic development in the state through the Detroit Center for Innovation and other collaborations.

You misunderstood me. I’m grateful we don’t have a woke-WAR warrior, like a Randy Fine or Chris Rufo. I’m happy we hired someone based on credentials and competence who was targeted to lead our State’s Flagship University back to prominence instead of back to the 1800’s.
