Prior to the NIL era changing the way that college basketball rosters were constructed, transfer portal recruiting for the top schools in the country was all about accumulating the best possible talent and figuring it out from there. Sure, plenty of coaches talked about “fit” and getting players that would compliment each other, but actions speak louder than words–and most recruiting strategy revolved around getting the best possible players on the board.

I can’t recall how Mike White did so won’t speculate; but most players defensive skills and hustle improved dramatically under BD and TG.
Golden’s guards defensive intensity vastly improved under his staff, in my opinion (without looking at stats)
In the late portions of the key games in the tourney, our team was flat locking down our opponents. I know most of these teams were gassed and Tex Tech pushed us around low, but we hung in and made the key stops in these come-from-behind wins. I’m pretty sure, under TG, you don’t bring the defensive intensity/effort/hustle at all times, you ain’t playing a whole lot.
I think these new players will improve their defense.
