Why? We’ve heard lots of rumblings about a commit. Hasn’t gone public yet, but they usually don’t on a weekend. Also hasn’t scheduled any other visits yet.
What are the Florida Gators’ chances with high-scoring USC Trojans transfer guard Desmond Claude, who officially visited UF this week? On3 national basketball reporter Joe Tipton provided some insight into Claude’s recruitment Friday and it’s definitely a positive update for Florida. He wrote the following: “Claude arrived in Gainesville for a visit Wednesday night but began his tour and experience on campus Thursday. He wrapped up his visit Friday morning. It sounds like Florida is in the driver’s seat and the clear team to beat. To my knowledge, no other visits have been scheduled but only time will tell if another schools makes a strong push for Claude. As we all know, portal recruiting is very fluid.”

Learning even at an older age is an amazing thing! The world is changing my friend. Roster limit changes not offered in settlement brief If Your plan for the team is for Olie to not be on the roster next year... then I offer my apologies. Roster limits in the NCAA settlement Decreased from 16 to 15. Scholarships increased from 13 to 15. Any walk on not on 15 player roster can not play in 2025-26 season. We have 12 people slated for our 15 player Roster next year unless Condon goes pro.
Thank you for posting a link to that article. It's an eye-opener, and it's surprising how complex the issues really are, and good to know that the parties are moving toward finality by July 1. Quite interesting that there are hundreds of millions of dollars proposed to go to current and former athletes that played pre-NIL. The days of non-scholarship players are nearly over. Walk-ons, too, may be coming to an end, as I don't see why a school would carry a player that doesn't have some potential to become a regular some day.
I love to learn! Is this actually settled? I wasn't aware of a lot of the details. This ruling will cut our roster size. Eek.
Roster size shouldn't be an issue for any program. For many years, the scholarship max was 13. BD often had fewer than that on scholarship. If the proposal goes through, we should be able to have 15 guys on scholarship. With all the money that's going to be due to the athletes, ya gotta cut costs somewhere.
Right, but we had 17 on our roster last year. If this passes, we can only have 15. If I'm understanding it correctly
I think it was quite rare for BD to have used all 13 schollies, if it ever happened at all (maybe in his early tenure where he actually played 10 or 11 guys). No way I’m going to go back and check math, but my impression after 2001 we probably averaged 10 or 11 on scholarship. Might’ve even dropped to single digits a few times? The thing with the portal is there’s almost no reason to not be pretty full. Although 15 feels like a stretch. It was always sort of hard to get up to 12 and 13 just for PT concerns (and nowadays budget and $$$) so not sure why anyone pushed for 15 scholarships. But the portal at least should mean no reason to have less than 10.
I believe the big money schools will stockpile using all fifteen, so other schools don’t get good players.
