I had never heard of it until I was getting my drivers license renewed last year. Think I needed to bring birth certificate, utility bill, forget what else .. to the tax collector and it was easy enough. After the wait, that is …
Will wait until the summer to get mine. I don't travel much and I do have an active passport so it's not a priority and it's just too busy to get one right now.
We've had Real ID in Florida forever, and I think the number of people to scan the thingy on the back, I could count on one hand. Maybe that will change going forward, but its basically functioned like any other ID since I've had it, where someone is just looking at the birthday and picture from 10 years ago.
Like my DL picture needs a change I just changed my LinkedIn picture which was nearly a decade old. The guy in those pictures had 10 years less of teens tormenting him. Takes a toll. lol
I think Florida started doing it in the mid to late 2000's. I know I've had mine for 15 years or more which is when I had to get my DL renewed and it was automatically a Real ID. Don't remember showing them my birth cert. but I must have shown them something.
Thanks to the state canceling in person stuff during COVID, my "REAL ID" picture will be like 20 years old by the time my license expires lol
HA!, mine too. I have brown hair in my DL photo and was about 30 lbs heavier. It expires on my b-day next year so it will be updated then I suppose. Don't think anyone looks at the picture anyway.
