Omg, I have never read a more over the top redic article in my life. I mean yes Golden was a ninja but he has to get 8 good players and then work magic. An easier task no matter how difficult. Either way, not even consider that “getting to the playoffs by (by way of winning the SEC championship) would have literally nobody that I would care to listen to, griping about ridding of ourselves of Napier. Anything that even gets us to the SEC is probably more than enough. obviously i want it all but so does every other team starting the season. Don’t forget how unlikely it is to win championships in both sports. We OWN the record of most with 3 in football and 3 in basketball. That’s MORE THAN ANY SCHOOL in the country. Luckily, I was there for all of them but the last but give me a break with that over the top win the trophy or he’s gone. If that’s the case, he should be gone. I’ll take an SEC Championship and look for a Junior Lagaway championshiop. Win, or even get to the SEC barring injury and his return is certain. Good God. GO GATORS!
3 bacons, 9 agrees. So yes …a bit over the top. The vast majority of Gator Nation thinks the article is BS.
We just want improvement, consistency, acumen demonstrated. Making the SECCG would do it for me. An as good or better record than last season and beating georgia, regardless of the circumstances like who is our QB, would do it for me. Napier is not a miracle worker. To the point about a basketball team having a smaller roster. That's true, no doubt. But a football program staff has so much more resource and staff support. Definitely more to roster-up and coordinate, but the best programs do it and we want to be up there with the better programs. Comparing two different coaches in two different sports would be LAZY journalism at best... and just silly on its face value. Top lump these different two coaches together and demand like wise expectations of success is something a middle school child would try and do for a "book" report back in the '80's. Lol... your turn, Napier. Having said that... I hope Napier gets 10 wins.
You can look at what golden did vis a via Napier 3 ways. First, different sport so totally irrelevant. Second, Golden caught lightning in a bottle. Third, this is what an exceptional coach looks like. I fall between 2 and 3. TG had an exceptional talent in Clayton, but is DJ the same? At the end of the day, the reality is that while that article is simpleton thinking, BN has his team and needs to compete for titles- this year. Great coaches do that by year 4.
Simply equating basketball success with football success and what the respective coaches can do is silly. In hoops you need 5 or 6 good players to make a run, not 50 or 60. Suggestion: Try to avoid flinging poo to see what sticks. There's enough of that in politics to turn my stomach.
Regardless of what the basketball team did, Napier is down to his last few cards. He must have a successful year (9-3 or better) or he’s sunk. He’s been given the time and the resources. He must now produce.
Well, now that this complex issue has been irreducibly settled by an anonymous member of a fan message board, we can all sit back and just relax.
Rather than make personal attacks, why don’t you explain your logic why you don’t expect some reasonable successful results in year four?
They are Napier fans not UF fans. What’s best for UF is all that matters. Not the Napier fan opinion. Just ignore them.
I fail to see what is so complex about evaluating a coach’s ability to win games. Should we not expect superior results in year four? All other top tier programs do. Or are you satisfied being a middling 7-5, 8-4 type team?
I think that to expect with such a degree of certainty any outcome in an endeavor that has so many moments to moment moving parts is likely to be a disappointment. Doesn’t mean I want mediocrity, but if it was as simple as the post made it appear everyone would do it. I’m not a Napier fan or opponent. He’s the coach of the team from my school. I want him, and them, to be as good as they can be.
Not making a playoff with D.J Lagway is a failure. Especially after the first 3 years. Even Saban would be run out of town at real programs. This leaving the door open for excuses is loser speak. If you want to lose and make excuses about factors root for Mississippi State. This is UF. We are done losing.
There is a distinct difference between excuses and reasons. You would do yourself a favor if you would try and understand that. There are reasons why CBN has not led our team to where all Gators want and expect us to be. As for the reference to DJ Lagway, we are fortunate CBN was able to land this incredible young man and all Gators are excited about watching him perform for the next 2 or 3 years wearing O&B. But it’s asinine to think one player a team does make: even one as talented and dynamic as DJ. I can cite many examples where generational players have not been able to pull their team over the finish line. Being an old, old guy I remember the distant past better than recent but I recall that Archie Manning Sr was and is a legend at Ole Miss. But even though the Rebels were recognized as a “Blue Blood “ football program in those days they never won the SEC during his time there. Don’t put the onus of our success on the back of one player: no matter how impressive he is. No Gator fan I know is ready to anoint CBN just yet. But there are a lot of us that are aware of the obstacles he has had to overcome to build this program back to a higher standard and are hopeful he can continue to evolve as a head coach and finish the rebuild successfully: which of course means a better, more consistent performance on the field. Sorry I’m incapable of keeping my posts to a reasonable length.
Rather than broadcasting threats to Napier’s job security like you’re somebody with the power and ability to do anything about it, why don’t you shut your pie hole long enough to see if he can continue building off the 4-game win streak and outstanding recruiting to in fact improve to 9 or 10 wins this season? At this point you’re nothing but a loudmouth hiding behind a keyboard spouting threats and contributing zero useful content
The “reasons” are he’s not a very good football coach and he’s completely incapable of adapting from his plan. Even if it means 10 players on the field. We know.
