I don't disagree, but the reality is trending heavily towards experienced transfers, especially in the backcourt. I expect Ingram will play this season, but a lot depends on who is on hand. We know that CTG's metrics point him to an 8- or 9-man regular rotation.

Another downside is that there were not many midmajors advancing in the NCAAT. They're losing all their top players to the Power Conferences. I don't like it, but it brought us a national championship. THAT, I like.

UK, the NY Yankees of college basketball. I foresee a huge cluster mess with that squad….
In terms of character, humility, and heart, our three NC teams are really special.

During my matriculation at Florida's original land grant university, between 1978 and 1982, we had none of the success athletically that we enjoy today. When I say "none", I mean that in the fullest sense of the word. Other SEC programs were accorded such privilege, but not the Gators.

We celebrated our 1980 football opening game victory over Cal with the fervor equivalent to a championship, coming as it did after the woeful 1980 0-10-1 campaign. Just competing was wonderful; winning was majestic. And yet, we had the innate and resonant belief that merely being a Gator was good enough to mark all of us as preferable to being anything else, anywhere else. We students chanted "It's great to be a Florida Gator!" as we walked down the south end zone ramp after every loss in 1979 but it sure felt better after the wins, once they started to happen.

I see many, too many for my taste, equate their passion for UF with its success in athletics. This is anathema to me; I reject it and all its sentiments and devices. That is a shallow and transactional perspective that leads to ingratitude and bitterness.

Championships, like victories, are not our birthright as Gators. They glorify our existing state as Gators but we remain proud of our Gator-ness “in all kinds of weather.”

Gators baseball was pretty good under Arnold during that time.

I made my point badly. True about our baseball - and generally true about all sports: we were OK. Not a gimme. But no national rep for anything great, like we have today. Our overall % in football for instance was pretty good over time. But never consistently winning the “big one” whether UGA or the SEC giants.
