If you are inferring our flirting with Chip, he was washed out as an NFL HC (perhaps a lesser version of Jon Gruden) but as far as I know, his success (while enhanced and nurtured with Microsoft - or was it Oracle? - money) was about football acumen (at least on the offensive side) and not because he had a strategic advantage in player personnel. That game would be in the area of Smart and Swinney. And to my point, he is (was?) the OC for the 2024 season NC team. Can you see Cal or Self or Wade going back to being a second (or third) fiddle on a quality team? Highly unlikely.
Alexis to the Hoosiers. Reminds me of an old song: Indiana wants me, Lord, I can't go back there Indiana wants me, Lord, I can't go back there I wish I had you to talk to. indiana wants me song - Yahoo Video Search Results
I want Alexis to succeed, but the Big 10 is a physical conference, so from that aspect ... interesting choice by the kid
This all feels like the aftermath of a Superbowl win. The vultures are out to scoop up all the loose pieces. I guess Golden should be flattered.
I think Alexis will do just fine at Indiana, and this seems like a good move for both. He was a solid contributor in our regulation until he got hurt and then was supplanted by Handlogten. Our frontcourt, if Condon and Chins return (which they will}, is loaded for next season, and Sam would again probably be outside the regular rotation. IU is trying to rebuild and can put him to work right away.
When you think of the 04s, think of how much power being a National Champion has. We don’t know how much more money UK gave him, but as a key returning piece on a NC team, he could have leveraged that for at least hundreds of thousands in NIL money + he’d have Gator legend status the rest of his life. Instead, IF it was for money, he didn’t work out the math OR he got bad advice. He’s going to be just another UK alumn in a very crowded field. Here he would have been a legend. No way that’s worth less than a million dollars. Short term thinking….or there’s more than meets the eye
It’s interesting how delicately writers, like Brockway here, can paint players as self indulgent without actually saying it. Every team losing players is quite busy taking them also - often paying more for the new players than they would have needed to to keep the old.
One thing for certain is that the rules have made stockpiling talent a thing of the past. All that's left is the uniform. Former Florida basketball guard Denzel Aberdeen takes better deal at UK vs staying at UF
