Creeping up on 10%. Add incoming freshman and outgoing seniors, that's quite a bit of roster turnover everyone will have to manage.
Almost everyone on Oregon State is in the portal. There are only 3 player’s remaining Lici Campbell Ellie Garcia Logan Hulon
I think I might know the problem. Oregon St is entering the West Coast Conference next year with the likes of Pepperdine, Loyola, St Mary's and Gonzaga. Not exactly softball powerhouses. I think these young ladies think these teams are below their pay grade and want better competition. Can't say I don't blame them.
Not going to look it up, but imagine Washington state will be going through the same thing in all their sports. Don’t know if they play softball.
I feel like every big name in the portal I rumored to go to OU. heck even names not in the portal. Canady ( again) is rumored to be headed to OU
I wouldn't doubt it. And if that the case that is some shady stuff. But Meylan wasn't that impressive this year. She's following a lot from OSU.
Yea but I also don't want to lose any of our younger players. I wish the portal didn't open till after the wcws. Our current teams is doing great thing and has a huge series this weekend.
This just in, schools will be allowed to pay athletes directly moving forward. Get ready for a bunch more stupid and likely a bunch more lawsuits while they sort it all out.
I don't understand all of this. Since when is being a college athlete a profession? Your compensation was getting a free expensive education and the opportunity to pay at the highest level.
What makes a profession? I think at its core, a profession is derived from an action that creates value. This is why TV repairman was once, but no longer, a profession. Repairing TVs used to create value, but it no longer does. Clearly, playing college football creates value. One study suggested that Tebow brought in around $10M to UF. Usually, when an employee/business partner brings that kind of value to a corporation, they receive great compensation in return. How much money would you pay for 10 million dollars? Probably a lot more than $13k. Here’s a good discussion of the issues from the Tebow days: OTL: Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy and the value of stardom
I'm not shooting the messenger... the rating was aimed at you jsut the situation. If they're getting paid for play... why pay for the education anymore?
Not all are on scholarship and Not all athletes are on scholarship let alone one that is a "full ride". In some cases, they are out of pocket for injuries.
I don’t make the rules. I don’t even like the rules. Softball, which seems to be your favorite sport, is an equivalency sport though, which means at least a portion of our girls are not getting full rides.
