And a Partridge in a pear tree...

Hey, I believe van fly, at least I do in my dreams. I believe aliens built the pyramids.

But we are more likely to get into the playoffs than what I just posted.

There is a non zero chance UF wins the natty. I will cling to that minute possibility as long as the possibility exists. The longer I cling the more I enjoy the season.

We lose to the horns 31 to 32 but come back and beat the "steer" out of them 45 - 24 in the SECCG!
    Ya heard it here first!

The idea, gentlemen, was to respond to the article by yours truly, Pat Dooley. The Gators have sufficient talent to go far! Games are often won or lost by special teams play. I suspect we could play a number of close games that could go either way. Because we don't have a ST coach, I bet Florida loses a few close ones--some we should not lose as well as a few upsets!

I'm usually a bit on the pessimistic side, but after reviewing our schedule again, I think we can do well. Yes, it's tough, but not insurmountable, and we have important games at home that we can win.

All we need is just a decent defense and offensive line, and I think this team can take off. Everything else is in place.

I think we should win 7. Regardless of schedule, less than that will be a disappointment. However, last season several 3 loss teams finished in the top 12. That means we need 9 wins. Tall order but not until end of season SOS come out can we know how difficult our schedule actually was.

If this guy loses a single game this season due to STs or game management inadequacies, he will rightfully look like an amateur HC. It will be talked about by the media world and would be terrible publicity which he brought on himself, but also his team. Seria no bueno.

With a 12 team playoff, a lot of teams will feel they have a shot at getting into the playoff for most of the season until they get to 3-4 loses, which will actually make the season much more exciting. Imagine how exciting it would be if we had a normal playoff system? Like the ones they do in all levels of Football for Pee Wee to the NFL.

I disliked this post not because of the content but for using the phrase: "If this guy..." in reference to our head coach Billy Napier. He has a name and he still has my respect in spite of some shortcomings. But I too would be very disappointed if self inflicted wounds, such as those you described, were still a regular issue in the 2024 season.

I go counter to your opinion. We have enough analyst input. Most of special teams is won by the work in the offseason and during the week. The performance is just a reflection of what happened during the week, and one "on field" coach is not going to be making snap decisions that will win that many games or lose that many games. We can't afford to take away an on field defensive coach to fill a special teams only role. In the past that could have been a recruiting specialist in kind of a dual role. That just isn't needed any more.

There will be errors, and that doesn't mean that the coach is an idiot. These are young men who make mistakes. Kirby Smart has made baffling gaffes. Our fan baseand our trolls are too prone to knee jerk reactions.

Hey Doc - btw I am hitting you up for a backstrap when I see you on game day.................:p

OK, so I had fun with my (11-1) post. But honestly - Some pundits suggest an 8 or 9 win season,
with UF's schedule, would require serious playoff consideration.

Of course UF needs to win 8 or 9 to test this theory. All I can say is that after the 6 - 7 reality check of
CBN year 1, this is the most optimistic I have been about his chances at success. But the schedule is
    not helping things.

Shane Matthews thinks UF will start 6 - 0. Of course he predicted 9 wins last year.
Thats the fun part of the offseason - hope springs eternal. I do agree with those that suggest
a fast start is imperative for UF in that the schedule is severely backloaded.

Anyway, for me it's all about Miami. It starts there, and frankly I'm excited about the contest.
Into the meat-grinder day 1. So glad it's in the Swamp. While UF did fall to Utah on the road last year,
Billys teams have shown they play decently early, especially at home.

I'm thinking real hard about planning a little soiree in Gainesville for that Saturday!

9 wins to sniff the playoffs.

Using last year's cfp rankings, 10-2 was ranked 12th at the end of the season.

I think our nine and three will look a hell of a lot better than whoever that Tenn and 2 was last year. I’ll also bet if we can win eight games we could’ve kicked the shit out of that number 12 team last year also. It might not get us in, but we Well, have beaten a couple playoff teams. I would think if we are eight and four

Exactly, and I’ve made the same point here before. It makes no sense when people say that an expanded playoff ruins the regular season game importance. It actually increases excitement and importance of each game. If a good team loses two games by mid-season, the players and fans are now only invested in the game for salvaging their pride and/or playing the spoiler role to their rivals chances of making it. You have almost no shot at a championship. With expanded playoffs, more games will have meaning all the way to the final week of the regular season. We need a real playoff system like every other college and pro sport.
