40 percent or so would be my guess.
If the “SOS matters” crowd in the decision making room wins the argument in the room we are in.
If the “we can’t reward mediocrity” crowd wins we are likely out.
If the “let’s line up the 5 13-17 teams and take the top 3” crowd wins out, yesterday was a big blow to that.

Baseball America updates their projected field of 64 every day and this morning they have Florida as a #3 seed in the Tallahassee Regional with FSU, Southern Miss and Stetson.

I think UF is in. We have baseball reputation/history of past years, SOS, and a fair to moderate record against some highly ranked teams going for us. Those things seem to matter.
Also dislike having to rely on things other than the on the field season’s record.
Next year could be really ungood without an overhaul of the roster.

Watching the LSU—KY game. One of the TV announcers is Chris Burke and he has had a lot of good things to say about the Gators team with regards to making the postseason tournament.

Everything that you would cite as a positive in their year’s numbers he highlighted in his comments. For him being an LSU Alum it was good to hear.

Of course, it would be great to make a regional site; but, wouldn’t it just prolong the agony of a painful season?
Not trying to be snarky but it seems like we are reeling downward except for the few late Ga games. I’m not at all suggesting the team has quit or lost its zest, just think we ain’t so good this year.

Well Shane Matthews suggests UF is a "lock" for a 3 seed somewhere.

The gut reaction is little chance based on all the issues, BUT let's say you roll out Liam Peterson vs USM and he continues to throw well....that's winnable. We know Jac can beat anybody if he's on.....so he throws vs FSU. Do you get the Gator bats we saw in game 3 vs UGA, or the disappearing offense that has 15 K's and can't move runners? The odds everything comes together are slim, but this team took 2 of 3 from some really good teams and totally blew multiple games late vs top 10 teams. They can play with anybody, and they can totally lay an egg vs anybody

Whether we get in or not this is a very flawed team. The one consistency we have is poor pitching and hitting. I think this year was hard to take in that we were runner up in the CWS championship and had a very good recruiting year after that. Ranked #2 and optimism was sky high. Something went terribly wrong. Was it brand new coaches? Was it complacency on Sully or the players? Was it bad pitch calling? Were the guys all about HR's and glory and all about their stats? Who knows. I think it's the worst year for Sully or close to it and I can't see it sitting well with him. He's smart enough to right the ship but he's got his work cut out for him.

Not good. They have played the toughest schedule in the country and if some of our guys pitch and play up to their potential, they can beat anybody. But this year's track record doesn't bode well for a post season run, IMO.

The #2 ranking was an absolute joke. We lost the Friday and Saturday night starters (1st and 2nd round draft picks), a shortstop who had as great a season offensively and defensively as you could hope for at the position and was an outstanding team leader, a catcher who always seemed to rise to the occasion in clutch situations and was also a team leader, and OH YEAH some outfielder named Wyatt Langford who is already in the majors. This is a disappointing season because guys we thought would make a jump or repeat the success from last year didn't but this team was never deserving of a #2 ranking. Never. #rantover

Well I always want to make the post season and think this team still has a good shot at the ncaas..

I recall the ole Miss team from a couple years ago. Very flawed under achieving team team, losing SEC record, last team to get in, yet won it all. Then there was the Vols team that dominated the SEC but didn't even make it to Omaha
Ya never know, especially in baseball.

If anything, it was a testament to how this program under Sully is looked upon from a national perspective. Lots of coaches and media think of a Sully program as one that doesn’t rebuild, it reloads. We know that’s not quite true, maybe others will start to figure that out as well.

Much of what you said is true, but Sully consistently has a top 5 class. There should not be such a drop off even when you have talent leaving. Take OU women's softball team year after year right up there. Take bama in football, they lose quality players and still stay on top. We had talent returning but for some unknown reason they regressed. Being number 2 last year and being on the bubble this year just can't happen.
LSU lost tons of talent as well, but they are putting it together at the end of the season that not many teams want to face right now. I agree, we probably shouldn't have been ranked #2 at the beginning but right now we are just plain rank.

My gut feeling is that Sully will hit the transfer portal heavily after this year. This team is far below previous teams that have done well. Expect to see a completely different set of guys next year.

LOL at the last sentence. I agree with you but now the portal seems to be as important, if not more important, than the high school recruiting and quite frankly our portal haul wasn't great. Even the crown jewel of the portal class greatly underachieved. Still agree with you that there is no excuse for this big of a drop off where nearly everyone not named Cags regressed.

OU softball has more financial support than anyone else in their league. Likely more than double their closest competitor and probably our baseball program. They buy whatever they need and most of what they want too.
