I agree with everything you said here. The point, imo, is he did this just to prevent those two bridges from being lit. He has had 6 + years to enact something to honor the defenders of freedom but didn't until the local boards that used to help get the two bridges lit kicked it to fdot to determine and then rather than say no he shielded the exclusion behind the flag.

That's conjecture on what is going through his head. I have beef with him on other topics beyond flags or lighting up a bridge. No one cares. As far as pride for minorities, it's being taken too far socially. The government should ensure rights for all, but not get into displaying pride for any group within it's constituents. Democrats display minority groups flags and pride.months to make their groups feel good about voting for them. Its all BS and needs to stop, it's tribal and boring.

I can respect that position. I don't agree that it is just dems that enjoy their special recognition though. I do believe that the decision on lighting bridges never happened before the lighting issue was kicked to fdot and the red white and blue option on all bridges was cover to justify saying no to rainbow on the two. Why else would he have waited this long into his admin to do something like that? To me, the bigger issue is using patriotism as a way to silence opposition or those you disagree with. If you don't follow me, you are not patriotic..I call bs on that mindset.

it is intended as hyperbole to demonstrate how a slippery slope can lead to places we wouldn't have imagined. if I would have told you a decade ago that the pub candidate would have all the baggage that Trump carries, you would have called me crazy and I would have agreed with you

That is what it represents, but it’s increasingly aspirational. I mean, “woke”, a term meaning tolerance of differences, has become an epithet for a large portion of our population, most of whom identify as Christians. (Not you, Tilly!)

Some conservatives seek to do that, of course, but there's no reason the left should cede the American flag to any Americans who reject the very diversity, inclusion, and tolerance that have been part of what has made our nation successful and a place where people come to follow their dreams.

It still does. People will always twist a good thing. But people are 100% free to be who they want under that flag.

I didnt realize "pride" was limited by group.

Countries behead people for choices while we create months to celebrate them.

I'd aay we are pretty inclusive.

Nah, people just want their agendas pushed and take it personal when they aren't.

All of these things separate us into groups.
FWIW, I think the month long commercialization of Christ's birth (months after he was historically born btw) is over the top too.

Being mad about red, white and blue would have made our grandfathers (mine a vet of the Korean war) flip in their graves.

Its nonsense. We need to stop getting offended at everything.

Let gays have pride month. I dont need it under every bridge I cross paid for by tax money. (We have one locally that does this btw).

I can GUARANTEE if the state wanted red and green at Christmas to celebrate it, some here would be outraged by the "forcing" of religion by the government.

Its all just silly season at this point.

Republicans are trying really hard to make the flag a symbol of their hate.

Yep. It’s so simple - live and let live - except for the blasted squirrels, who have finally figured out how to raid our bird feeder. I guess I’ll have to get out my air rifle. Maybe a pellet sting will discourage them. (Sorry to change topics, but the damn things are slowly emptying the feeder as I type this.)

Unfortunately, wear and display of the flag in public has come to be a symbol of adhering to a certain set of political ideals. Pretty sad, but at least we can show patriotism in other ways.

don't confuse being irritated that Desi removing the rainbow from two bridges to being upset with red, white, and blue. When patriotism is being used as a cloak to exclude people who do not agree with a certain political view, it is no longer patriotism.

How are people being excluded? Do straight people get a bridge color in celebration of their sexual preference?

The problem stems from the appearance of some people want to be "more" equal than others. When you have these special months or days for a marginalized group (although I would say National Hispanic Heritage month folks aren't marginalized) then people are going to push back. Similar to the civil war statue removals.
Bottom line is all the special months or holidays or memorials aren't going to change anyone's mind about anything, that only happens with time, and that moves too slowly for some. Have all the special months you want and if it makes you feel good about yourself then great, just keep in mind that there will be people that see it as a slight against them and will push back. And that is what we are seeing with certain state and local governments. I guess the question you have to ask is if the push back those groups are getting is worth the opposite reaction, and since they aren't going away, I guess it is worth it.

I have a Squirrel Buster brand feeder. Works great - I do have to take it in at night to prevent the raccoons from dragging it to parts unknown (like the last 2).

My neighbor feeds bears, ducks, squirrels, and many other animals. Gets a kick out of watching them on his trail cam. Problem is that it brings bears through the woods behind my yard and across the street to his place. We have one very large female bear that has been a regular for years. The other day, I spotted a yearling right outside my window. It appears to be striking out on its own now and I worry that its struggles for food will spur erratic behavior. Not worried about us, but am worried about our dog. Our yard is her domain.
