I think this will fail, but finally something that makes sense: a pro league for players that care nothing about attending college except to get to the league.

this is for kids entering sophomore and junior years of high school and they are to pay for the right to join these teams like they would an aau team. not really sure how this won't violate high school athletic association rules about profiting off NIL

seems like a money grab by the former pres of usfl and likely to fail

This could be that football minor league that some people have been waiting for. Waiting to take the players out of high school that just want to get paid up front, and the ones that don't want to be "student" athletes.

If that's another route for some kids that I think we can weed-out. This new league for the kids that want to play football for a paycheck right away... and that leaves the young men that want to get the full college experience, and education, in lieu of a quick pay check to play ball... pay-to play. It weeds out the players for hire out of college... win, win for all party's.

This new league could be a great thing for college football in the long run, even though some of the best players might opt for that option, and siphon off some great players, it will all even out in the end.

Many young men probably need this league... and I think college football needs it too.

NIL is a bit of a cluster fook along with the portal, so I guess it make sense to toss another element in there. Two years in Prep, one in college makes you eligible? I guess TBD.

If players are academically unfit for college, would the pros still want them? I guess a few players would be wanted. I thought vetting was getting more stringent. Details to follow I'm sure...

I’m sure kids playing another however many games of a violent contact sport each year will do great for their future prospects.

College football has way more money and will pay more. If it doesn’t fail, which it probably will, it would be great for talented kids that don’t belong in the classroom. Many aren’t really students and are wasting their time. It would be great to have a choice like baseball players have.

You guys understand this isn't an alternative to college (at least yet)? This is a spring league for HS kids to play 11 on 11 full contact instead of 7 on 7. Other than maybe some lineman, I doubt this will be top end recruits, it will be ones that aren't invited to camps that are trying to get noticed. Almost like paying to get into those who's who of high school student books.

Spring league for HS players to launch in 2024

This is being set up as a way to promote top talent to colleges. It's a 6 week league during the recruiting season.
Think of this as an Elite 11 for every position.

All-star teams will play each other to showcase their skills to colleges and NIL collectives.

Am I wrong in wondering how they can still get NIL? I don't think the HSAA don't care how/when you get it, once you take money don't you lose your HS eligibility?

Many states allow HS athletes to collect NIL. FL, TX and GA do not.

    From the OP twitter article:

I think in states that prohibit NIL it will only affect underclassmen. Seniors will already be done with their HS eligibility.

I see this league as being a national collective for NIL. I would bet in the paperwork the players sign, there would be a clause that the league gets a percentage of any NIL deal signed.

12 teams with a two deep rooster of 4/5 star kids at every position. That is a minimum of 528 potential NIL deals and the league gets a % of each deal.

That is going to be super expensive to run. I wonder who is sponsoring that?

I can see one or several of the big apparel companies being a national sponsor and then local companies sponsoring each team. Remember that they will be charging a participant fee to the players as well.

Six weeks of lodging and food, and everything included and trying to run this thing. Players won’t be paying nearly enough to cover even a week.

If it is run like most travel ball organizations, the players would be responsible for lodging, travel and food.
Remember each team will be made up from players from the local area so the only travel is for games.

I have a client who's 10:yr old plays elite travel baseball out of Sarasota/ Bradenton. He drives him down 3 days a week for practice and to tournaments around the SE all on his own dime. They pay the club a fee for coaching.

You just named the 3 states that do not allow hs kids to profit off of NIL and those 3 states just so happen to provide a overwhelming amount of the top HS talent in the country. In factbthose are the top 3 states for HS blue chip players last time I checked. Only California is missing tonround out the top 4. What's the purpose of this again?

I see this as another opportunity to kill kids prospects at a top school when they blow out their knee playing another 6 weeks of a violent contact sport. Major injuries have generally cause top schools to back off a player once deemed a "elite blue chip" player.

Seniors in those states can get NIL because their season is over and their eligibility is over.

It's six weeks to showcase your talent against other elite players and maybe make some cash doing it. It may also get you better scholarship offers.
