Are we supposed to know who “UD” is from the title, or is that, like, part of the allure to open the link?

I thought every Gator knew who UD is: Udonis Haslem. He has become a South Florida icon, and everyone down here at least knows who “UD” is. (He also is really a nice guy. I used to see him at our park where his kids play all the time)

And yea, UD is “part of the allure” because as we all know, GatorCountry’s Too Hot crowd loves a sexy, mysterious, alluring title.

Good for Udonis. It's nice to see athletes speaking out. I was sad to see that Dwyane Wade felt he needed to leave, but I completely understand why. The DeSantis administration passed rules and laws aimed at harming his child.

Hah. Look at the keyboard warrior saying this to a Miami and Gator legend. I’m totally sure you’d say that to his face.

The whole "Florida Man," thing was kind of funny, lighthearted, usually people doing stupid things with alligators. Things are taking a dark turn, though. Not nearly as funny.

I wouldn't if he didn't bring it up. If he insisted on talking about it and we're in a public debate, that's exactly what I would tell him.

Love UD. Love him. Legend in Gainesville and South Beach.

But his opinion of political matters is of zero importance to 99% of people on either side.

Wade left the Heat before DeSantis and came back after DeSantis was elected. What are you referring to?

You may not agree with his opinions, and that’s fair. But I think you’ve missed the point. He is discussing the derision he receives everywhere he plays because he happens to play on a team located in Florida. The fans in arenas mock him because he plays in a state governed by DeSantis, who is rightfully perceived as a radical lunatic.

So, a guy that has his family and deep roots in South Florida, multiple businesses in South Florida, and gives back to his community in both time and money unmatched by all but a select few, should leave the State because he doesn’t like the current state of the politics of the current governor?!?! Is there really no room in your world for someone to speak out against what one believes to be idiotic policies? You think they need to be shown the door?!?!

I guess it makes sense as to why you support DeSantis the way you do.

That happens in every arena for a million reasons though. Fans are looking for a reason.

I mean We Gator fans mock something about every fanbase. Lulu and Junior, corndogs, etc.

At Rays games we heckle NYY players and fans for all sorts of things.

Sports fans heckle. It really means nothing.

The Florida man has been a term well before DeSantis ever was Governor, Florida has been bashed for decades going all the way back to the Bush Gore election.

Deep rooted in the idea that most are a bunch of rednecks or hicks, not quite as bad as UT or WV however.

Dwyane Wade Says He Left Florida for the Safety of His Family (today.com)

Dwyane Wade revealed that he and wife Gabrielle Union relocated from Florida to California “for a lot of reasons,” one of them, he said, was the need to have his 15-year-old daughter, Zaya, who is transgender, grow up in a safer community.

Wade lived in Florida while playing for the Miami Heat, first from 2003 to 2016, and returning for his final season in 2018 to 2019. “One of our decisions was what was going to be the safest and best community for our daughter, Zaya” the former athlete told Variety at the 2023 Met Gala, adding that Los Angeles was where they settled.

He added that while he loves Miami, its people and that the city “has done so much for me,” he’s taken issue with the laws and politics of the state.

“But the last couple of years, the laws, the politics, you know, has really become this big conversation, right? It’s unsafe conversation, and it’s unsafe for my daughter, it’s unsafe for the young kids and the youth and adults, the elder in the trans community,” Wade said. “And so for us, as much as I love that city, as much as I’m always going to be a part of it, for the safety of my family, that’s what it was. I couldn’t move back.”

do you believe that one of the things that ahs made this country great is the protection of the minority from the majority or do you believe that 51% should be able to tell the 49% to get the he11 out if they don't like it?
