I acknowledged it’s a little different if you knew someone playing for them. For me, it would depend on how close I was to that person. My best friend is actually a Clemson alum and sow fan. I’d pull for his daughter if she played for Clemson but I’d (silently) pull against her as a nole.
I guess I cheer for great kids. No matter where they go to school. Maybe Im different but I get hating FSU. Having seen the arrogance of OU this year Im not sure Id root for them over FSU even it wasnt for her. They are insufferable.
I too pull for good kids or kids I’m familiar with. Couple of years ago a youngster from Citrus High School who was the grandson of a friend I went to school with played his junior and senior years for FSU’s baseball team. I listened on radio a couple of the games against us and I was hoping he would play well, but I would have been just as disappointed as ever if FSU had managed to beat us, (we won both). I have a disdain for FSU that has no exceptions or boundaries.
My 2 favorite teams are always the Gators and whoever is playing the Noles. No matter the sport or the circumstances.
Watched a little of the OU/Stanford game today. OU player is intentionally walked and slams her bat down, stomps down to 1st base and acts like she just hit a HR. Classless.
Some of those girls definitely have a flair for the dramatic, but then again, so do some of the boys. See:Tennessee Vols.
I'm glad FSU won. At least the Gators can say they were very competitive against the probable WCWS runner up as opposed to Tennessee which pretty much destroyed us in 3 of the 4 games played.
I don't think it's classless as much as they get excited about everything. Everything. They don't take anything as nonchalant. They celebrate every single victory. I think it's a little over-the-top, but I can see how it really works to keep energy levels up. I find all the constant cheers in softball a little annoying -- certainly used to drive me crazy when my daughter was playing -- but I do appreciate how it keeps everyone engaged and excited during a game. Yesterday, Canady stomped and screamed after every strikeout -- she should, because striking out someone is an amazing feat. But so is getting on base against her, so I can't hold it against anyone too much. We as viewers always seem to want players (of any sport) to take their accomplishments as no big deal, but I think there's something to be said for celebrating every good thing you do in a game. Positive reinforcement can be an effective motivator, and if you get in the habit of celebrating the minor victories, the major ones come a little easier.
To me Oklahoma softball is like Alabama football was for so many years. They are so dominant everybody else hates them. There is a swagger, no doubt, but teams like that have awesome talent and know they're good. They, also, know there's a huge target on their back and so there's an "us against the world" mentality that develops and they feed off each other. As long as their enthusiasm doesn't cross the line into taunting or in-your-face intimidation, I have no problem with it at all. As much as I would like to see the king fall, I have to pull for the Sooners over FSU. Any other team and I would be for them, but not the Noles.
This was the only final w/ any hope of being competitive. At least after ucla left lol. Knew Vols werent on these 2 level.
I thought the Vols looked surprisingly bad with a lot of mistakes. Unfortunate. Would have liked to see SEC in the finals.
Guessing results will be same for OU.lol SEC vs non SEC in Supers & WCWS finals is like a 30-35% win rate for SEC.
