This is being posted in Too Hot, but is intended to bring a little humor to the subject. I'll begin by saying that I'm a very old white guy who grew up before integration. I knew of no one who was gay growing up, but since have had close friends who ended up with homosexual kids. Believe it or not all were accepted with no problems. In my personal experience, this has been the case with all LGBQ people I've come in contact with. Most problems now seem to be them wanting much more than acceptance, but I leave it there. The shooting yesterday was tragic of course, but I couldn't help but notice how difficult the reporting became because of politically correct language. Nationally it was reported that she was a female. Then she was reported as trans gender, which today normally means a bio-male who has become a female. It turns out that Tennessee law says if a bio-female then she is a female when reported on. I would have referred to her as a butch lesbian, but that is politically incorrect, though truly accurate. In short, national news had real trouble in reporting who the shooter really was. Be careful what you wish for, you may not get what you really need.
"Then she was reported as trans gender, which today normally means a bio-male who has become a female." That's inaccurate
How so? The swimmer is reported as a trans female, but is a bio-male who became a female. This was also reported to be a trans female, but not the same, get it now? It’s confusing at best, thus my post.
I read that also and that was my initial reaction. It was an incorrect use of terminology which I discovered in short order from a little research. As a I pointed out in the thread on the shootings, she was a bio female who preferred the use of male pronouns and used a male name on some of her social media sites. It's still not clear whether that was the extent of her "transgenderism", whether she planned on actually transitioning but had not begun the process or whether he/she had actually begun the process.
I'm you're age, and am still somewhat confused by all this sexual identify stuff. As to this shooter, the only thing relevant to me is that the person was seriously emotionally disturbed and should not have had a gun. I'll be damn if I know the solution to that problem. It seems to me, though, that a serious background check would have weeded her out. Sadly, it seems many gun owners are willing to pay the price of innocent deaths in order to prevent such checks. I find that disgraceful.
I’m not gonna lie when I was watching the body cam footage I was kinda hoping they were going to find her in the men’s restroom just so Fox News would explode.
Mission accomplished, genuine hilarity innocently injected into a subject some are going Full Debby Downer about. “Butch lesbian” really stuck the landing. But being “truly accurate” like that would’ve sucked all the fun right out of this story. Thanks for the laugh!
I think part of the confusion was there was reporting that the shooter preferred male pronouns but also reporting that used the feminine name Audrey. The shooter apparently used both names and the friend she messaged called her Audrey in those last messages. There were pictures that didn’t seem that far apart in time to me. Then you have some people who accept and use peoples’ preferred pronouns and others who refuse to do so even when someone has transitioned years prior. Also, confusion about the race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, or motives of alleged shooters can be blurry at first, and a lot of people on social media are chomping at the bit to have a hot take and set the political talking points.
Rescue Me was usually a little off color. This might have been its shining moment. I wish it would have ran longer.
