Upon criticism, Trump said he didn't know anything about Fuentes or his views, which "wouldn’t have been accepted" if they had been expressed during dinner. An interesting way to phrase it. His distancing reminded me of his purported ignorance about David Duke. Trump is reportedly a news junkie and describes his memory as one of the greatest of all time yet somehow never hears anything about White Nationalists in the news. Go figure.

It’s a good thing we have posters to double check if has really never heard of some asshat before, or if they perhaps made an off handed post about said asshat many months ago and didn’t recall it.

Seems to me forgetting useless info like this jack ass isn’t a bad thing.

I’m telling you, we have a disproportionate amount of left wing ex-HOA presidents on this board.
This place is freaking scary as shit.

    I like that.

"Ex-HOA presidents" can replace "Karen" so that the nice people named Karen can reclaim their name without embarrassment :D

It is disturbing that the board has kind of become a "tit for tat" with postings on both sides of political or ideological officials getting in trouble, getting arrested, doing stupid or bad things.

I know it's probably naive of me but Americans have so much to be proud of and to protect.

So many people feel justified to insult one side or the other, and I'm certainly guilty of it to.

What is it Lincoln said? Hope that the better angels of our nature prevail? Regrettably I have not seen too many angels but I have seen plenty of ultra extreme partisanship figures roiling the internet, the TV, the radio and the media in general, pissing people off to make bank.

What I find most disturbing is that persons can make a living, some even get rich, by starting a podcast with the sole purpose of lying and stirring up crap based on party affiliation. Some of these people even admit in private they are in it "for the money".
    Gee how patriotic!!!!!!

I worry that this partisanship may lead to the destruction of the American experiment. I'm thankful I'm getting on in years.

I stand in the other camp here. I think we need to remember the name, we need to call them out, and we need to educate those who have listened to his garbage. Don’t let that poison take foot.

Agree and I think part of the problem is that it's increasingly difficult to tell when some are just grifting and when they're saying what they truly believe. That's by design. It's part of the trolling that seems particularly aimed at influencing young people whereby someone can say the most hateful and offensive things while maintaining plausible deniability and mocking people for not having a sense of humor.

"Irony is so important for giving a lot of cover and plausible deniability for our views," Fuentes said in a 2020 video. He specifically cited Holocaust denial — or what he termed Holocaust "revision" — as a topic that is too fraught to discuss earnestly, even on the far right.

"When it comes to a lot of these issues, you need a little bit of maneuverability that irony gives you," Fuentes said.

And, in fact, after Fuentes questioned the death toll from the Holocaust in one rant, he later claimed to The Washington Post that it was just a "lampoon."

Researchers who track domestic extremism say Fuentes is not the only figure to adopt these tactics, particularly among far-right content creators, who encourage their audiences to follow suit.

“Coming out of the woodwork” is almost always used derogatorily. Why the animosity? “Supposed lack of recognition.” Do you think the people are lying when they say they’ve never heard of NF? Being “knowable” and being “known” are not the same thing.

Here’s my recognition of the knowable people you list:
Paul Gosar: No clue who he is.
MTG: Yes, but don’t follow her. She’s pretty ridiculous in my book.
Steve King: Yes, but never read his books. If not that Steve King, then no clue.
    McGeachen: No clue.
    Wendy Rogers: No clue.
Both McC's: I assume the leaders of the House and Senate, so yes, I know who they are.
Romney: Yes, and gladly voted for him.
Pence: Yes. Seems like a decent guy.
Trump: Yes, and gladly voted against him. Both times.
    Sheriff Joe: Yes.
The third best-selling rapper of all time: I don’t listen to rap.
Ye: At first thought this was the guy who ran in the Democrat primary, but then remembered that was Yang. Is that the name K West changed to? Is he the 3rd best-selling rapper of all time?
Milo: Heard of him but don’t know much about him.
Alex Jones: Yes. Another person I have no need to follow.
Malkin: Maybe if you mean Michelle.
    Loomer: No clue.

Your last line baffles me. On the subject of Nick Fuentes, you will not take seriously anyone who says they don’t know who he is, because they don’t know who he is. For you to take us seriously when we say we don’t know who he is, we would have to know who he is. And then you’ll take us seriously.
