Thank you for the cogent response.

I am not aware of the history of or the reasons for government regulation of liquor. I know it is depicted in old movies as a money grab. I've always accepted it as a given and didn't give it any thought.

I’ve always thought it was the Puritans. Certain States have some funny laws now which are money grabs, but the actual prohibition of alcohol was driven by Puritans and extreme Christian ideology.

Even though the Bible does proscribe alcohol but only drunkenness.

Just a heads up. It’s really very difficult to respond to someone who reduces the discussion to an absurdity, and then insists that you respond to the absurdity. Your comment is no different than someone saying republicans want to ban abortion so gun owners will have an adequate number of targets to take aim at in elementary schools. Try harder.

It concerns me how the rubric for "good man" for closet-fascists is based on how frequently and severely he attacks and hurts groups they fear/hate.

What would you suggest I call those who support strong and overreaching government control of individuals or groups?

I mean, I can start to refer to you as a Bialik if you want, but I'm not sure anyone else is going to remotely understand why...

If cons didn’t push back, I’m afraid my kids would come home from govt school pink haired, cursing like sailors and pregnant.
And all the libbies would say is that’s great, we’ll just increase taxes to take care of those poor little libbie babies.

My three all made it through high school and college without any of that happening.

I guess we should ban WWE too, I mean Ric Flair with a feather Boa. ohh, the horror of that kind of grooming with all the sexuality implicit in some of the show. WOuld youa gree, no kids under 18 allowed to WWE and make it all r rated PPV with parents who let kids watch arrested for felonious child abuse?

Extreme rhetoric is why you like leaders with autocratic and fascist tendencies and think they're "good men" when they hurt people you're afraid of.

I’m not afraid of any one. My concern is regarding the general direction of our country.
It seems there is quite the motivation to remove and/or dismiss my culture. The southern values I was raised by are the ones I know and value. Im trying to rear my children the same way my parents did for me.

Lemme get this straight: when it comes to schools/education, Dear Leader believes that parents and not the government should make decisions. But, when it comes to THIS, the government and not parents should make the call? Um, Ronnie, make up your F----ING MIND!!!

That's an interesting analogy. I do think our society is more concerned about kids seeing or hearing sexual material than violent material. But you're right; even sexual themes have been prevalent in pro wrestling - not to mention the skimpy outfits. Is the key difference with drag shows just the sexual orientation component? I haven't seen pro wrestling in years and don't know if there are gay wrestlers/characters, but I suspect that distinction might make a difference to some parents. At that point, it would really just amount to an objection to homosexuality. In that event, the government has no business enforcing that objection.

So, if DeSantis cares so much about the kids, why is he not proposing banning them from R rated movies? They have real sex, real nudity, people eating one another, people being dismembered, shot in the face & so on. The # of kids that go to Drag shows has got to be a very small fraction of those that go to far more graphic movies.

ANS: it would be politically unpopular.

Conclusion: This is once again political theater. He does not care about the kids. &, he's willing to take people's rights for votes.

Epilogue: Make far more sexually explicit drag shows, film 'em & show 'em in theaters.

I guarantee you that the parents that place massive restrictions in their children and burn absurd fear into their soul at early ages, are the same parents to have their adult children tattooed and pierced.

Young adults, by nature, rebel. And those who give them strong reason to rebel, often get strong rebellion.
