Anyone who doesn't think the sanctions have greatly negatively impacted Russia hasn't done the research.

U.S. delivers to Ukraine funds seized from Russian oligarchs (msn.com)

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has announced the first shipment of funds seized from Russian oligarchs to Ukraine after meeting with Ukrainian Attorney General Andrii Kostin at the U.S. Department of Justice headquarters. The amount is $5.4 million, about 5 million euros.

"Today I am announcing that I have authorized the first-ever transaction of Russian seized assets for use in Ukraine. These funds come from the seizure I announced in April of Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeyev for breach of sanctions," Garland explained in statements reported by CNN.

The United States seized several million dollars from Malofeyev's bank accounts in June after announcing sanctions in April "for acting directly or indirectly on behalf" of the Russian government.

Slam China with sanctions if proven true. Let them show who they are to the world.

Great news even though it's a small start. Let's start trading in some super yachts for missiles, I'm sure the oligarchs would appreciate being able to help fund the Ukrainian victory.

Yes, but Russia is the only country that requires the recipient to dodge bullets and kill the donor's troops to get the food, clothing, and shelter. Everyone else provides these things without shooting at the recipient. That minor detail is sometimes overlooked by the mentally-challenged.

Ukraine has regained Snake Island in the Black Sea. And former U.S. defense secretary James Mattis says that Russia is withering without any major allies.

Russian estimates square with BBC-Meduza 12,200 dead “but likely 40 to 60% higher.” Note: this includes all Russian allies.

Ukrainian estimates square with Col. Douglas MacGregor’s and others’ 160,000 dead and presumed dead.

Mattis is one of the greatest military minds of our generation. We would be wise to listen to him. One of Trump’s dumber moves was to not only fail to heed his counsel but also drive him out and engage in a pissing contest. It reminds me of the scene from first season of GoT where Cersei had Barristan Selmy dismissed just to get someone — no matter how reputable or competent — who was not a complete Lannister loyalist out of the way.

I still fantasize in vain that President Biden will give Jake Sullivan a face-saving “promotion” to head of the World Bank or something and invite Mattis to rescue us from the current pattern of national security setbacks.

@VAg8r1 My desires in that regard go far beyond “optimistic.” If there was a triple rainbow thing, then that would be more appropriate.

Good reference site I stumbled across that does analysis with satellites info. I have to imagine the Ukrainians know the points of attack and the new long range guided bombs are already diled in. Will Russia run out of bodies before Ukraine runs out of munitions? How many dead if Putin throws 500k bodies at once? Does he win?

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov warned that Russia might attempt to launch a new offensive before the first anniversary of the Ukraine invasion on February 24. According to Reznikov, Russia is concentrating as many as 500,000 troops along Ukraine’s borders, significantly exceeding the declared 300,000 soldiers. Reznikov speculated that the offensive could come from the east and the south simultaneously. The minister also emphasized that military assistance from allies is needed to repel a possible attack.

Ukrainian military intelligence also stated that Ukraine expects a new wave of fighting in the next two months. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting to discuss the restoration of infrastructure in Crimea, Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk following Ukrainian shelling. He noted that his administration is prioritizing ending Ukrainian shelling along border regions

Is this why they are selling currency now? Another wave of men about to head for the borders?

Russia Announces Military Expansion to 1.5 Million Troops
The defense minister had earlier proposed a Russian military comprising 695,000 “professional contracted soldiers” as opposed to conscripts.
He also proposed to raise the age range of mandatory military service to 21-30 from the current 18-27.
It’s unclear whether the two proposals have been included in the latest plan

Russia’s early challenge was low force commitment.

Ukraine’s present challenge is horrendous losses.

Great first shot for artillery. The following attempts show just how hard it is to get that bullseye on the first round

Reports that the average life expectancy of a Ukrainian conscript in Bakhmut is four hours.

    Just brutal.
