Another big opportunity....win here would really tell me this team is advancing much more quickly than anticipated. But probably more then W/L I'm looking at competitiveness and individual progress. Midway thru doubles Up a break on 1...5-2 Up 3-2 on 2 Down 2-3 on 3
Nefve and Grant win 6-3 Braswell and Grief win 6-4 on 3 Court 2 was 5-5 when UF claimed the doubles point Huge to jump out 1-0
Mixed bag in singles Nefve down 2-6....not unexpected vs elite comp Grant down 2-5 Nate up 3-2 vs an very good opponent Braswell up 4-3 Grief down 1-5....not a good weekend from him so far Tokac up 4-3 So up in 3 and down in 3....but all 3 of our leads are razor thin and all USC leads are a boat race. Will be very difficult to win this one
Believe we lost 1, 2, 3 & 5 in straight sets. Braswell won and Tokac lost in a 3rd set match TB. So, 5-2 USC final. Back down to Earth a bit...
We played great doubles but were too soft in singles. Another lesson to absorb for our guys. Tomorrow the Stanford match will be played inside at ten AM because of bad weather reports in the Orlando area. Each team will have three courts and there are cameras in the USTA indoor building. Ustanationalcampus.com click on the three lines at the top of the page you come to and then click on the word WATCH to get to the indoor live feed.
Coach, I'm sure it's too eary for this....but thoughts on maybe sliding Nefve into #2 and giving him a better shot vs elite teams since IMO we don't really have a true dominant #1. Or do you maybe feel he can compete at 1?
Midway thru doubles vs Stanford (who lost 3-4 to UGA yesterday) Down 3-4 on 1 Up 3-2 on 2 3-3 on 3 About as tight as it gets
Singles changes....Braswell up to 3 and Bonnetto down to 4 Greif stays at 5 but Tokac replaced at 6 by newcomer Orlikowski. I might have pulled Lucas given his struggles this weekend, but nice to see one of the mid year transfers from Poland get on the court
Grant loses on court 2 in straight sets, rough day for him and Nefve Braswell loses on 3 6-3 6-4....not sure I like moving him up to 3 just yet. Stanford now up 3-1. UF has to win all 3 remaining matches. Nate should have a great shot at 4, Lucas who knows on 5, and we have a freshman in his first match on 6.
Nate 6-7 Lucas 4-6 Orli 4-6 We have yet to win a set in singles....little worrisome vs a team that lost to UGA yesterday. Really need to show something in these second sets
They are better than us at this point in the season. We now have two plus weeks to work on things in practice. Doubles and Olek’s first match as a Gator highlights today for us.
Against elite teams in Orlando for three matches we did not win a singles point at one or two singles. That in itself tells a story
Axel is a solid top 40 collegiate player. These last three matches he played top 15 talent. That fact is pretty predictive of outcome. I liked what I saw from Olic today. With more matches under his belt coming back from injury I would expect he will move up in the lineup
Olic was up in his second set, a good sign. Little disappointed in Nate at 4 today. If Olic enters the lineup it will be interesting to see if Lucas or Tokac sits most often. What little of I have seen of Tokac shows pretty nice upside As you said earlier, we got blitzed at 1 and 2 singles all weekend, and I don't see that changing vs good teams unless maybe sacrificing Grant at 1 to give Nefve a chance at 2
