I thought the universities weren't supposed to be involved in NIL?

Different states different laws, but Florida is changing the NIL law to compete with other states.

Good for Saban but … Bama has been paying recruits and families and providing jobs and housing and what have you for evoked a decade, all in violation of ncaa rules. Now another school can offer more cash and not get busted for cheating. Just like Bama is never even looked at for all of their cheating. I don’t feel bad for him at all. He just preferred the cheating that his school has been able to get away with whole few others did.

“hey, ncaa, put some better rules in place that allow me to go back to paying recruits under the table and have a competitive advantage”

Exactly. The guy that moved families to Tuscaloosa and had multiple issues with recruits posting cash and hanging with big money boosters is now complaining about NIL....

Bama started the waterfalls in lockerooms, ginormous staffs and unprecedented recruiting success through win at all costs methods and now he has a problem???

Saint Nick apparently sees things a little differently when it's HIS ox that's getting gored. LOL! :)

Still a nice article @malscott and maybe something will happen with college royalty unhappy.

I suppose sports cars, nice SUVs' and Momma's new home were never on short supply up Tuscaloosa way.

After our famous debacle this year with NIL- ya know other coaches were watching. (I bet some were sympathetic to the bad pub and the ridiculous numbers) Let's hope positive change is lurking in the wings. I just hope it isn't U-haul trailers with Go Tide on the back...:rolleyes:o_O

    It's great to-be a Florida Gator.;)

    Go Gators.

"One of them wanted $500,000 and for us to get his girlfriend into law school at Alabama and pay for it. I showed him the door," Saban reportedly said.

    :D:D:D

Great article and good for Coach Saban! :ninja3:

Nick- let me show you a map to Miami and here is the number for John Ruiz. The crazy thing is the paying for girlfriend’s law school is the violation, not the $500k in NIL.

He can just use that money towards building a strip club inside the Football Facility, which is a better long-term investment because it goes beyond attracting just those two specific recruits. Not to mention the flood of UGA players that would transfer to Bama.

Saban has always played chess, while everyone is playing checkers

Only a decade ??? Sorry fellow gator but your time
line is way off. It’s been going on for many decades. I had a lady that grew up as a friend next door neighbor of Tony Nathan a d kids family. Said they were life long Auburn fans. Tony had committed to Auburn. UNTIL Bear Came to visit. Less than a week later , the Nathan’s moved out of that neighborhood to a brand new home in a much nicer neighborhood. And yep, Tony flipped to Bama. Went onto a great career and years with the Dolphins. Those Red Elephants have been shucking out the green for a while.

I’m a little skeptical about Saban’s comments when Bryce Young came in with $800k in NIL before taking a snap.

I’m curious what the violation is for getting the girlfriend accepted into the law school (and Bama has a very good law school which is otherwise difficult to get into)

Maybe the two players involved weren't quite at Bryce Young's talent level. That's the thing, some players are just going to be worth more than others and that is an adjustment that both players and NIL collectives are going to have to work out.

All true. So our solution is to ruin the sport? He may be being quite hypocritical here but he is doing and saying the right thing.

Out favorite sport is in the ER on its way to a death bed.

Is he doing the right thing though? The system has been corrupt forwver but he started the new age precursor to all of this. He now has an historic recruiting class this year in this age of NIL so I'm finding his pleas to be less than noble or authentic.
