Not a real shocker and to some extent it's good to move on.

I guess the SECShort was the straw that broke the camels back.

No matter what the facts are and the specifics of what went down, it's a bad look for the University of Florida and will not help with recruiting future big time players negotiating NIL deals. Outside of the Gator bubble, we look bad.

We look awful but at this point might as well deny his request. Make him sit a year and then burn his free transfer.

That would look bad to future recruits and transfer portal targets. I'd rather just immediately cut ties with this kid and never hear from him again.

He would like to release us from the Gator QB interception record that he would likely set

This is one way to look at it. The other is that the herd is not always correct. As I posted a while ago, either we are used car salesmen or Rashada has a very high opinion of himself (or his handlers do). Until further notice, I believe we have drawn a line in the sand and are not crossing it because stupid money does not win championships. I am not accusing you of this, but far too many folks who are fans of some team are caught up in recruiting rankings and fantasy football. I get the long-term trend of the more higher ranked signees the better the chances, but you HAVE to believe the HC implicitly knows what makes up a quality team. And until further notice, he and the administration (and the heavy hitters) are not prepared to "go there."

Call it wisdom or call it slow. I call it short term loss and likely long term gain.

I hate to say this about a young kid so full of himself and so naive and surrounded by short sighted people, but I will be rooting against him..

Agree. Just come up with a dialog about the facts - and the lay of the land moving forward HAS to reflect it - and present it to the prospective signees. They either get it or they are not the kind of players Napier wants on the team. Anything short of complete transparency (without litigation potential) would be disastrous.

Either those letters mean something, or they dont. And if they dont then why even bother?

The question is not what to do with him, it is how best to avoid going through this again?

Id rather risk losing out on fickle, indecisive, or just plain double dealing recruits than watch the program deal with interminable drama and constant doubts.

This isn't a bad look on UF, this a bad look on the landscape of college football. Sure this NIL b.s. extends to all college sports but football is the primary money maker. Why on earth is the system allowing kids to make this kind of money? This isn't just a matter of making some money...we are talking millions.

In this situation, we are talking about a 6'4" 185 pound unproven QB at the next level to make up to $13MM over 4 years. This kid will make more money than most people do in a lifetime including lower round NFL draft picks. Let that insanity sink in for a moment. Chances are, a lot of these high priced NIL kids will make their money in college and never realize their full potential as the drive to succeed is gone since they have already cashed in. I'm not opposed to NIL but the current structure is unsustainable and will absolutely ruin college sports especially football.

While you're right that this technically has 100% nothing to do with the university, perceptions matter. These kids looking for a quick paycheck likely associate this with the school.

It sucks, but as you mention, this is what CFB is now.

Could it be the commitment of Lagway influenced JR; meaning, he saw a serious competition coming a year from him showing up and that caused him and his family to up the ante, so to speak, on the NIL deal?

If the stories going around are true, then no.

To be honest I think there are players for whom the $$ is absolutely paramount.
