Georgia OL Devin Willock, recruiting staffer die in car crash [Developments at #68 -- #283 -- #289]

What are a staffer and player doing together at 3am? Been drinking?

 

Horrific news. Young people gone before their time. Prayers to all their families.

 

Terrible! Prayers for their families.

 

Sounds like there were two players in the car - one who passed away and one who sustained injuries. UGA had their celebration parade and ceremony at their stadium earlier that day so I assume they were all at a celebratory function together. Which could look bad, perhaps, but also could have been innocent such as the staffer being a designated driver or maybe the players called her to get picked up because they had been drinking, and tragedy struck regardless.

 

Sad news. Prayers for the families and folks at UGA.

 

Thoughts & prayers to their families, friends and everyone that knew them. Just awful that these young lives were lost way too soon.

Initial investigation indicates that a 2021 Ford Expedition was traveling southbound in the outside lane of Barnett Shoals Road when the vehicle left the roadway, striking two power poles and several trees.“

FYI - Per an ACCPD source, no initial evidence indicates substance or excessive speed were contributing factors. By all accounts Devin was a great young man, all A honor roll in AP classes in HS. Regardless of the circumstances we all hurt for his teammates and family.

 

A tragedy for sure.


Devin wasn't driving; the UGA staffer, Chandler, was. Chandler is a she. Her pics are available online.

It was a single car accident, in which Chandler apparently veered off the road and struck a power pole at 2:45 am killing herself and Devin, and seriously inuring another female in the vehicle, along with another football player.

 

Prayers to the families.

 

It looks like that’s what most likely happened. Players asked a recruiting coordinator for a ride from the party. And she could have lost control of the vehicle. Very sad situation

 

Just terrible. Possibly had to swerve to miss a deer. Happens quite a bit. Could not regain control. Very sad.

 

So very sad. I feel so bad for the families.

 

Even if they were doing the right thing with a designated driver, nothing good happens at 3:00a.m. Hopefully for the family of the female driver it was a freak accident involving a deer or something along those lines. At least that provides a bit more peace.

Sad situation for the two that lost their lives. Reminds of that UK basketball player/NBA prospect that was killed right after the season a few years back. Not his fault as it was a daytime crash where another car pulled in front of him, but I believe speed also ended up playing a factor in that one.
