Nebraska's key players like Lawrence Phillips and Christian Peters were in and out of jail multiple times during their college careers for violent crimes (of course they were released and reinstated in time for the natty).

Tommy Frazier ran over and through an entire defense that had gone undefeated and won the SEC, then went totally undrafted (they said it was because of blood clots caused by Crohn's Disease...hmmm what else can cause those kinds of clots, oh yeah steroid abuse.

But I'm sure that Frazier was a victim of Crohn's...just like I'm sure that Wyatt Sexton had mental issues because of Lyme Disease.

As I said Frazier went undrafted.

Christian Peter was drafted by the Patriots and was waived a week after the draft because of his history, he was then picked up by the Giants under condition of attending counseling for substance abuse, attention deficit disorder and anger management (you can read his arrest record on Wikipedia). I also seem to remember a story about him killing someone in a bar fight, but that may have been someone else on that team.

Phillips was drafted by the Rams played a couple of years, got in trouble on and off the field and got cut. Signed with the Dolphins and lasted 2 games and got released after assaulting a woman in a nightclub. Tried a comeback with the 49'ers failed to pick up a blitz that ended Steve Young's career. A couple of weeks he was waived for conduct in practices and attitude towards coaches. Played some in Canada, then back in trouble again. Tried to run over some teenage kids with his car after an argument during a pickup football game. Sent to prison and committed suicide in his cell after being suspected of killing his cellmate.

Those were the stars of that team. Since then Osborne has been asked numerous times in interviews about steroids on that team, and every time he just storms out without answering.

Nonsense, Frazier didn’t run over our entire team. Rather, the 200 pounder was laughing in disbelief as our entire team bounced off themselves, in keystone cops fashion, trying to tackle him.

Neither Peter’s nor Phillip’s misbehavior is evidence of steroids. Neither was especially big for their positions. And in fact Nebraska was a smaller team, hardly evidence of juicing. We just got out-coached.

Osborne was probably annoyed by implied and baseless accusations of cheating.

This is wrong, and it's getting annoying to see it keep getting repeated. After Trask came in against Missouri and performed well after FF was benched, Feleipe was listed as the starting QB on the depth chart released the following Monday. Trask got hurt in practice TWO DAYS AFTER THAT, on a Wednesday. So no, he was not "given a shot" unless you're talking about something else entirely?

Dan had opened up the job going into the USCe game and said that Trask was going to see time that game. That is diff from saying he was going to be listed as the starter though

Bobbybaker86 explained it correctly. No way Trask wasn't getting his shot after Frank's performance and combined with Trask immediately moving the team during that missouri game. Arguing starting vs playing time is valid but I don't think it's as significant as you're making it out to be.

One thing that bothers me in hindsight is the fact that Mullen never spelled Franks with Trask the way he did Trask with Jones.

In the end, I'm not arguing Mullen handled Franks/Trask perfectly. I'm just pointing out that it was more complicated than many make it out to be.

I remember a report about an assistant coach hiding Tyrone Williams’s gun from the police after a shooting incident.

Most seem to believe that Trask was actually going to start against USCe, at least that's what I see being repeated ad-nauseum. And honestly, I kind of understand why someone would assume that because it would have been the logical thing to do. But, that was not going to happen, and given how reluctant Mullen had been to give KT playing time I just don't believe that he was going to see significant time unless we were getting blown out again and the game was out of reach. Prior to Missouri Trask had FOUR career passing attempts.

Already tried. ESPN shot like 60 interviews and it just wasn't there. Same reason a good doc on the Meyer era Gators will never be made unless someone wants to break code and spill tea.

Why does this matter so much to you? There are a thousand other things to be pissed at Mullen for. It seems like we are splitting hairs on this one.

I think Mullen didn’t want that pocket passer that couldn’t fulfill his qb running scheme but I doubt any of us thought Trask was going to be as good as he turned out. I mean, I wanted Trask but I really was kinda shocked.I was thinking good game manager

I would hear from a friend who works at UAA about how accurate he was at practice, just anticipating and laying there ball in there. But heck, why bother when the bubble is open behind the line ;)

Is this a reference to our 84 and 85 records?
    Those were great teams.
