It's the deal we had last season with Mullen.

People were saying "fire Mullen, it can't get worse." Eventually I came around because Mullen looked like he checked out, and at that point you have to make a move because it actually will only get worse from there. But realistically, Billy looked like the best guy of the small programs to pick from, and he still might be. Obviously he didn't have the resume of Brian Kelly or Lincoln Riley, but most programs generally don't pick guys like that. I would've never even guessed that a guy like Lincoln Riley was on the table.

So whenever you get rid of a guy, you need to ask yourself these questions:
1. Why are we getting rid of him? Is this guy terrible or is he just a "good" coach, a Mark Richt, if you will?
2. How confident are we that whoever we're replacing him with will do better?

I don't think I'll ever be a fan of cycling through guys every 4 years because Coach X didn't win a championship in that time, and the next guy "might." Odds are, he won't, and he just might end up being worse.

 

This offensive coordinator is raising a lot of questions
