Not a troll. In no way am I saying norvell is smarter… but they do tend to be more creative. Time will tell if what we saw this year was more about talent not letting coaches adjust or if it’s just a basic staff. What we saw this year was pretty basic. The most telling game was Vandy. Vandy saw what we did on film, zeroed in on it and beat us at the point of attack and we never adjusted. That happened a few times on offense and defense. It was alarmingly bad. That’s not me trolling… that’s factual. We can argue all day and nobody can really know - - was it lack of receiver talent/accurate QB and depth/talent on D… or did they run soft cover 3 and pistol play action, running guys into piles, throwing a WR screen, naked rollout etc that were all ineffective because the staff was lost for answers. Time will tell. If you look at Louisiana- there were big jumps from year 1 to year 3 so that’s what I’m hoping for. And with more talent and more accuracy things look better… even basic stuff. You can’t argue with that. They have to do better as a staff on game day. ESPECIALLY if they aren’t lining up as many 5 stars. That’s where Mullen gave us an advantage. I’m not a Mullen guy but he could call ball plays. I’m in on CBN… we were 32nd in total offense despite talent gap, new offense and some head scratching calls. That’s promising. But it was inconsistent. And not just because of AR but the identity and feel for the game. You can’t rely on the big play all the time. That’s like relying on turnovers. . I’m just pragmatic and this could be really special or it could be Muschamp 2.0… that’s just the truth. We don’t know. And I have concern that if you don’t have a decided schematic advantage - you can’t just line up and expect to win at a championship level

Yeah, you're right. Let's go ahead and cancel the program now. There is no hope.

We need Tight-ends that can do it all to run 12 personnel sets. But I'd be happy if we started running a 10 personnel spread widely throughout the field. Maybe flood one side with 3 receivers too.

Yeah/ I couldn’t understand that. You have basically no tight ends and you commit to running 2 TE sets lol. It is what it is.
And no I’m not suggesting we cancel the program lol. Why does everything have to be either/or all the time. Either you’re pro Billy or anti Billy, you think it’s great or you don’t. Is there ANY room for those of us that are pro Billy and think his plan is excellent but also think they have to do better on game day to give us a shot until we accrue talent? Jeez

No... the 10 personnel is 4 receivers set. With no tight ends. That is the 10 personnel set. We never once ran it that I can tell. But we did run 11 personnel sets a ton with 1 tight end and 3 receivers.

Also, why even run a 12 bunch set when you can just add another O-lineman (a 6th O- lineman) and get even better run blocking?

In retrospect, I don’t feel bad about the Mcelwain era when looking at what Mullen did to our program. Both were lazy recruiters but Mac had the evaluation piece going for him.

Curious…what data/observations/etc do you use to decide Smart’s game day coaching acumen?

Smart is a CEO and head recruiter. He trusts Todd Monken (OC) and Glenn Schumann/Will Muschamp (co-DCs) for in-game playcalling.

As for “it’s all about talent” that’s somewhat true but doesn’t explain Stetson Bennett/Ladd McConkey/Jordan Davis/Devin Willock/other 2-3 stars Smart took and developed. And it ignores the fantastic job Monken does as the best play caller in the SEC.

I use Smart’s bone head decision in the SEC Championship Game. I use the fact that if either Metchie or Williamson don’t go down last year you guys don’t go down you most probably do not win the natty last year despite having what was probably the most talented defense ever.

Talent makes everyone’s schemes and play calling look better.

Smart is Dabo II, though I will grant you that he is not as obnoxious as Swinney.

So you got nothing but bringing up the unrelated junk about last year’s Natty and your hatred of a rival?

The one thing you failed to address and/or omit was that despite all 5* & 4* talent at the QB position, they stand the chance of repeating as Natl Champs with a 3* talent at the QB position. Does Kirby pull that off, with one of his 5* or 4* QBs starting instead of his 3* talent..............I say probably not.

CBN needs to recruit at a elite level, but unless CBN finds a QB that plays at a elite level on game day, odds are Florida continues to falls short in as far as winning a conference championships or a national title.

I don’t think Mac was a lazy recruiter, he just wasn’t very good. He did make staff changes and was getting better right before he got fired. He had a pretty decent class going before that.

Mullen, I would call lazy, and unwilling to make staff changes to make up for his deficiencies. On the field and off.

Nah, I’m riding pretty high these days.

I was looking for a non-emotional fact-based analysis to support your thesis. Might would have agreed if pertinent recent facts would have been presented. I like talking football.

So you bring up something unrelated to Smart’s game day coaching from last year and a bad decision from 2018 as evidence of Smart’s poor coaching. OK. Most would say he’s gotten better as a game day coach in the last 4 years. Even Gators.

Would love your take on CBN. Is he a better game-day coach than Smart?

The NFL is full of players from small schools who were not recruited by the big boys. Those players now, after proving themselves, have the option of getting picked up by the big boys thanks to the portal. It’s not just third stringers looking for playing time. Teams have the ability to fill needs immediately with proven commodities instead of waiting on incoming recruits.

That’s hard to answer right now. With our talent it was hard to really know what was what. I don’t know how much of what Napier did was what he wanted to do vs what he felt he had to due given the glaring talent gaps.

I really only had one goal for this season and that was to keep the recruiting class together through the season and get some more. In that regard he succeeded. In my 50 years of being a Gator fan, I really believe that top to bottom this was our least talented team.

I will grant you that Smart has gotten better on game day over the last 4 years but i do not consider him elite.

I think they're cut from the same cloth. They see themselves as CEO's and recruiters, with a specialty.

One has a 6 year head start on the other.

It remains to be seen if the Napier can equal what Smart has done. I have my doubts because of the gap that exists now, and our University's commitment to get there. We
backed off and opened the door for others to take what we had.

We wanted to be a top 5 school and a President Cup challenger and shortchanged our two revenue sports to get there. Georgia said to hell with that, we're going all out and here they are.

I guess your alter-ego wrote above in the OP.
