Colorado names Deion Sanders as head coach

Deion Sanders will be the next coach at Colorado, the school announced Saturday night, instantly making him one of the most compelling hires in college football this generation.

Sanders comes with just three years' experience coaching college football, as he went 27-5 as Jackson State's coach. Jackson State (12-0) completed an undefeated regular season Saturday with a 43-24 blowout of Southern for the SWAC championship.

Sanders informed his team of his departure soon after Saturday's win. He is still slated to coach Jackson State in the Celebration Bowl on Dec. 17 against North Carolina Central, sources told ESPN.

This is an excellent landing spot. Not a blue blood but also not a dog stashed away in the SWAC where we have no idea if 12-0 means anything. If he’s legit we’ll see it unambiguously. I’m super intrigued by this.

Glad he is not at FSU. Recruits would be hard pressed not to look hard there.

Most excitement Colorado has had since they won a NC in 1990. I think he'll do well there.

I'm guessing he won't be stressing academics or class attendance in general to his players?

Maybe this was the best P5 offer he got. Maybe the only one. Hard to see Neon turning Colorado around . . . except through massive recruiting . . . so Coach Napier and staff have at least 2-years to get the ship tuned around and more relationships fully established.

Probably not, but that may be beyond his control. Colorado has good academics. Lots of kids want to go to school there, so they can be picky about who they admit.

Eh, Deion brings something different there though. Even if his celebrity is somewhat a gimmick it might be what they need to get them started. Color me curious as well and I do think regardless of coaching chops it's good he isn't in florida or the SEC

I think he can win and turn them into a middle of the pack pac10 team.

He will land some big recruits.

Will this be enough to move him to a powerhouse school?

Have not understood why Colorado has been so bad lately. You’d think “Come to beautiful Boulder and go to one of the best party schools in America for decades. We also have legal weed & some of the hottest coeds on earth!” would work as a recruiting pitch. On the other hand, maybe that’s why they aren’t that great in football ....?

If Utah can win, then Colorado should have no problems.

You would think so, anyway. Seems like of all the schools in the west, not named USC or Oregon, that Colorado should be an annual contender in the PAC.

Odd move to me, they haven't been good in a long time, and if he put in another season at Jackson State like this season, he would have much better jobs knocking down the door to hire him.
