Im usually booking for 5 so we burn thru them pretty fast. Usually take 2 trips per year.

Did you know you can use Aa miles to book hotels? I used them to book a condo in Cairns Australia for 5 nights when I was flush with AA miles

I use miles as gifts for the kids, they love the trips and I don't lose the miles.

I had a bunch of hotel miles with Marriott too :)

Just dumped most of them on an Orlando vacation.

Sounds awesome. But I’d probably jump off the plane if I tried flying to Australia with my two young kids.

I wonder if travel agents know how to best use miles.

Hotels here in the states too. We started serious travel when kids were 3, 6, 7. Hawaii. But they flew to Alaska to see grandma every summer before that so they were seasoned by then.

There are mileage specialists that will help you get most bang for buck for your miles. I paid one to find and book our flights to, around, and back from Oz. First class for 5 to and from on same plane at saver level award wasn't easy. Used United miles over, british airways avios to fly around Oz on Qantas, and AA miles back with a stop in Tahiti. Once you fly long distance with a bed its hard to do it any other way. Juicy miles is what it was called then. Tell me where u want to go and Ill share what I know.

I have a delta companion cert expiring end of January. Buy 1, get 1 round trip lower 48. Pm me if anyone can use it. Certain class fares only but BOGOs are great. You can buy them from people for 40 - 75.

Same for Alaska air but second ticket costs $99.

Real young was ok for us as they mostly slept. We traveled all over with the first one, including a couple of overseas trips when she was an infant. It’s that 1-4 age that is hard because they can’t sit still. The first one is good now but the second would drive us and everyone else on the plane crazy right now as she is in that explore everything phase. Might start flying overnight, which I hate, but at least they would sleep.

So this is a bit different, but thought I would share it for those who might be interested.

    BNProject | Home

Basically, it is a bunch of groups on Facebook where you can give away your unwanted items, or get those items.

It is very local, everyone in the group you join is within about 10 miles from you so that you can easily drive over and get an item. Most people just leave the item on their porch for pickup.

Where I live, their are a lot of young families so there is a lot of baby stuff and kids clothes/toys. But my wife and I have gotten some pretty decent stuff off the site including a decent laptop for her and a pretty nice offset-smoker for me.

Thanks for this thread. It will come in handy. I wish I knew about these things back when I was traveling a lot

Nevertheless, over the years, we’ve managed to take some nice family vacations with airline miles, including one to Germany and one to Baja.

and there are places you can sell them too, just don't let the airline know it. You use them to get award tickets for people and they pay you for the miles

free night stays on Dansdeals are really cheap with lots of IHG certificates set to expire by end of year. Seller books with your name as second guest

Example IHG 40k point nights (with status benefits) for $65

    IHG nights for sale (dansdeals.com)

    Hyatt Cat 1 - 4 $125
Hyatt Awards And Upgrades Master Thread (dansdeals.com)

    Hilton (any Hilton) $250
Buy/Sell Hilton Free night Certificates (dansdeals.com)

    Marriott
    35k nights - $125
    50k nights - $250
    85k nights - $350 -$400
    Marriott Certs Sale (dansdeals.com)

And several people are offering to pay you to let them book your room under their name so they cang et the credit for the stay to get or maintain status for next year. Up to $50 per night subsidy and you get the benefit of their status
