The pain protestations are so completely unnatural. They always roll like 14 times, even over the damaged appendage. Then they cover their face, I guess so the world doesn’t see the, fake cry. Then they turn to the official to see if it’s working. It’s like clockwork.

I’ve read and heard a couple of people say that the US strength is the relentless play of our three mids along with Dest and Robinson. Our weakness is that they can’t keep up that pace for 90 minutes

 

McKinnie is like at 80% and coming back from an injury. Adams is a dynamo, but Musah looked pretty gassed, as he's a true box to box player. I'm pretty positive they removed Dest from games because he was sitting on a yellow and wanted to avoid suspension, plus his weakness is more on the defensive side. A lot of these guys arent regular starters for their club teams so that probably plays into the overall fitness level too.

 

If you pick up 2 in the group stage it gets you a suspension. But the accumulation is wiped clean in the knockout stage, so it resets. However, a suspension from the group stage would carry over if you picked up a red/yellow accumulation suspension.

I enjoy watching WC soccer, and I get it's part of the game, but f man, I'm way too competitive to roll around on the ground faking an injury while my teammates are still playing. I'd be afraid I was missing an opportunity to help out or get me a SC highlight!

Its such an easy fix. You get fouled bad enough you can't immediately continue to play, go sit on the bench for 5 min and have an orange slice or 2.

 

This is an awesome amount of pettiness. South Korea beat Portugal. Uruguay needed a third goal to progress instead of South Korea, despite winning that game. Ghana needed 2 goals to advance.

There is a history of beef between Ghana and Uruguay, specifically involving Luis Suarez. In 2010, he intentionally handballed the winning goal off of the line and Uruguay won on penalties. It would have been the first time an African nation made the WC Semis.

Instead of going for their two goals, Ghana made time wasting substitutions to try to make sure Uruguay wouldn't score a third, eliminating them and likely ending the WC career of Luis Suarez.

The soccer law says all of the ball must cross all of the line. It's rare, but there are times where non of the ball is touching grass in bounds, but the ball is still in bounds, because the ball is a sphere, and all of it must cross the line to be out of bounds.

It was millimeters, but if you drew an imaginary line up from the touch line, and a line through the middle of the ball, they would intersect. Here's the image from FIFA that shows exactly this. The part of the ball touching the grass is out, but there is still an edge of the ball that hasn't crossed yet.
