I don’t buy into right wing hype of just about anything. Is it not possible that one can have a reasoned opposition to unilateral across the board forgiveness of debt by the executive branch?

I will say again, I don’t oppose some sort of reforms, and targeted forgiveness, to the extent it actually achieves a specific goal. But it needs to be legislated and needs to be reasonable in scope.

Of course it's possible to be opposed but I'm not the one that trotted out the right wing trope about "working" Americans.

I don’t think college debt is mostly carried by blue collar/working class, more likely by the professional class. I guess you could debate where teachers fall in that. I’d be surprised if most cops are carrying college debt.

Conceptually I don’t have an issue for targeted forgiveness for teachers, but it needs to be towards some goal. I’d certainly put those teachers who got slam dunked when their public service forgiveness plan didn’t pay out high on the list. Or perhaps have something like $1000 relief for every year of service going forward. I don’t think the government handing out thank you gifts is good public policy.

They should shoot it down if it's unconstitutional. If it is legal then it should stay

I’m not a constitutional lawyer but it sure seems like a gross overreach, and bad policy in general. The reality these days is it seems like you can get to any outcome with your own constitutional interpretation. I’d guess we see a 6-3 decision against.

Agree with your last sentence. Loan forgiveness should not be about gifts; it should be about rewarding well-educated future leaders.

Your thought about a 1k relief for teachers, though, is a slap in the face. America has a teacher shortage crisis and it's time to take the profession seriously. I'd offer an alternative (i.e. "take it seriously, or . . ."), but there can be no alternative. Did you ever receive an annual bonus for your profession? A) Was it equivalent in today's $ to 1k? B) Did your profession involve caring for and nurturing the physical, emotional, and intellectual well-being of your community's young citizens?
FYI - teachers do not receive holiday or fiscal year bonuses. They rarely receive any kind of bonus and when they do, it tends to be a pittance.

The Dems are buying votes and abrogating contracts contrary to law.

Looks like the SCOTUS is going to hear the case in the Feb-March session.

And it’s working. Along with angry single or divorced women, Gen-Z swung Democrat in a very big way.

Now available on Netflix. A very well done cinematic depiction of some of the stresses
