That will end the Bubba Bowl.

It may end up being similar to the basketball arrangement (ncaa versus NIT). The 12 team playoff and a collection of lesser bowls (hopefully not so damn many of them) for teams that don't make the playoff. I would imagine they are lining up some MAJOR $$$ to go with the playoff, which may offset the conference $ splits if some of the lesser bowls go away.
Of course contracts for coaches will need to be re worked as well for incentives for conf champ, conf champ bid, at large play off bid, semi finals, and NC. It will be entertaining if nothing else.....fingers crossed that the Gators will be in their share of the playoff action.

Get rid of the two pretend games every year. Problem solved.

I really like the idea of an-NIT type playoff. I know it won't happen, but I'd be all for a P-5 playoff.

Start playing them in covered pro stadiums.

Overall, I like it. Having the Cotton and Orange Bowls played on January 11th (most likely) that first year is going to be strange, but those four 1st round games on the college campuses are going to be CRAZY!

Actually, the new system in reality would not mandate that ANY bowls be removed from the current schedule. Although the four 1st round games would divert TV slots from that weekend, I'm sure that they would just shuffle the lesser games before or after...

Doubtful. Those bowl games are all played in warm weather or domes.

This better include on campus in the first round. Imagine a playoff game at night in the Swamp vs Notre Dame or tOSU.

    That would be incredible.

Big picture they matter. They generate millions in revenue for businesses, hotels, restaurants etc... Even in small bowls.

They also are fun if your team is in it. They will always matter.

Ticket prices for that matchup would be through the roof, those are the two best traveling fanbases there are...

I don't think all the first round games would be at night, though. I could imagine Friday 8pm, Saturday noon, 4pm and 8pm kind of schedule that weekend...

The Swamp would be rocking for any playoff game we host though.

Absolutely no reason we can't be in it every year once Billy gets rolling.

Actually the Bubba Bowl was in reference to the SEC championship game.

Um, or UF playing in Columbus or South Bend in the middle of December. Gotta learn how to play in long underwear.

I’m shocked we have so many doubters here. This is a great thing for college football fans. The current system where only a handful of teams have a shot at winning the NC is no good. This opens it up for “potentially” to all FBS schools.

Don’t be so foolish as to think the P4/5 has given up their power position. The rankings aren’t arbitrary or computer driven. They will use the CFP Rankings from the CFP Selection Committee that’s controlled by the P5 power brokers. That’s why it’s good to be in the most influential P5 conference in college football.
