I think there is a coordinated "prank" today regarding active shooters in Georgia schools today. Valdosta High is down the road from me and they are under lockdown. Lowndes High, mentioned in social media posts, is/was under lockdown. This happened here in Maine a couple of weeks ago. An elaborate hoax that locked down multiple school districts, complete with calls about seeing victims' bodies. Hospitals cleared out ORs. Last I heard it was all done via off shore VoIP
I had never thought of that. What a way to cause panic and chaos remotely with little to no consequences.
A strong example needs to be made to deter this sort of wreckless behavior in the future. His youthful status should not protect him from the community's outrage.
The hoax calls were phoned into schools in Savannah, Brunswick, Valdosta, Milledgeville, and Milton’s Cambridge High School in north Fulton County, among others. Among others would include Colquitt County. There were also reports of similar situations at Cartersville High School and Forsyth Central High School. One of the early rumors going around before it came out that it was a hoax was that 11 kids were shot at Valdosta high. I can't imagine being a parent of a kid that goes there. Just wow.
Believe it or not we had similar goings on back in 1969 with bomb threats. Apparently some students discovered if they called in bomb threats on the day of a big test they could buy themselves time. I don't remember if they ever caught the kids that were doing it. Back then instead of lock down all classes were dismissed.
In the late 90’s I once hired a temp who ended up shutting the whole floor down with a fake bomb threat. Turns out she wanted to leave early to meet friends at a happy hour and I guess this was the way to accomplish that.
This happened repeatedly in Escambia county back in around 1997 when I was in high school. I missed 4-5 days a school that year due to bomb threats.
At least one high school in western North Carolina has had an active shooter report called in to 911 this morning only to determine that it was a hoax after a full emergency lockdown. The 911 call was reported to be a "robo call". This may be something that could be a national issue. While it may be a hoax, active shooter lockdown reports can cause some enormous fear and panic.
