He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. -Luke 22:36

    Jesus encouraged people to pack.

True, in fact Jesus and the constitution dont jive in many ways. Thus the quandary for us Christians. Jesus had little interest in political stricture and nationalism.

"Render to Caesar" is a very deep statement when examined closely.

It's why many of us have been disinfeachised by the GOP and government in general.

Jesus came on a global mission to bridge humanity to It's creator. He has zero 8nterest in the things that divide us.

True... But see my post above.

    Seriously? He was pretty clear.
"Render to Caesar that which is Caesar's.
Render to God that which is God's" this was a deeply profound political statement and one that showed He had little interest in being political in the earthly way.

But this is just the issue with the noisy ones. Most churches dont discuss politics.

Many good Christians have been blonded by rhetoric. They really believe that the only hope to slowing an agenda that we find harmful is to elect an evil king. This happened 8n the scriptures as well.

When Christians depend on earthly leaders instead of God it never ends well, we see it now. But they are indeed real Christians. They are just blinded by rhetoric and pandering.

    Marketing works.

My wife and I extracted ourselves from a church which pastor couldn’t stop promoting identity politics. To be fair, he did inject some variety. One week it would be the LGBTQ, the next week the Tulsa Massacre.

While 2A is never directly discussed by Jesus of course, He is the Prince of Peace.

When Peter drew a weapon for a JUST cause and harmed the evil Roman soldier, Jesus rebuked Peter and healed the soldier.

Self defense wasnt even really a Christlike trait.

Jesus does speak of dividing and inflicting justice, but that role belongs to Him only, not us.

My guess is he would be ok with 2A from a simple standpoint, (hunting, collecting etc) but not to the weird level some take it.

He likely has a much bigger issue with the armies of the world conglomerating weapons of mass destruction.

He and the Father are one. It was a SELF sacrifice. But if we are going to simplify 8t in such terms, 3 days in exchange for communion with the His redeemed creation forever seems a pretty easy choice to make.

Jesus and MAGA don’t jive. It’s easy to say you’re a Christian, but hard to be one, especially when one worships a false idol, as the Trump cultists do. Sadly, they know not the error of their ways.
NOTE: I’m referring NOT to conservative republicans, but to the MAGA folks.

Oh hocky-Po! How many private citizens who have guns have ever needed to defend themselves with one? An infinitesimal number! The number who have used them unlawfully is much higher. There is ZERO justification for the number of guns in circulation in America. It’s shameful insanity.

Sell your cloak and buy a sword - Wikipedia).

    Fulfillment of prophecy interpretation[edit]
Christian anarchist Jacques Ellul and Christian pacifist John Howard Yoder do not believe Luke 22:36 overturns the many times Jesus urged his followers to turn the other cheek and not resist evil when confronted by violence during his Sermon on the Mount and years of ministry. They show when the passage is taken in context (Luke 22:36-38), Jesus is also aware of fulfilling prophecy and makes a surprising statement that two swords are "enough."[2]

Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For the things concerning Me have an end.” So they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.”

    — Gospel of Luke 22:36-38, NKJV
Ellul, Yoder and Archie Penner claim that two swords could not possibly have been "enough" to defend Jesus from his pending arrest, trial and execution, so their sole purpose must have been Jesus' wish to fulfill a prophecy (Isaiah 53:9-12).[2] As Ellul explains:

The further comment of Jesus explains in part the surprising statement, for he says: "It is necessary that the prophecy be fulfilled according to which I would be put in the ranks of criminals" (Luke 22:36-37). The idea of fighting with just two swords is ridiculous. The swords are enough, however, to justify the accusation that Jesus is the head of a band of brigands. We have to note here that Jesus is consciously fulfilling prophecy. If he were not the saying would make no sense.[3]

    +++++++++++++++++++++++

When Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane Peter drew his sword and slashed the ear of one of the priest's servants. Jesus ordered him to put his sword away, saying all those who take up a sword will die with the sword. Matthew 26:52

Scripture must always be read in context and interpretted by other scripture.

There can be Christian’s that identify with Trump’s policies as they pertain to politics.

    Take abortion as an example.

If that’s their number 1 issue to vote on they hold their nose and vote Trump. Least of two evils in their opinion.
