    I would like someone with more football IQ than me to explain why we would radically stop doing what was effective in the 2nd quarter last night. We were literally running it down FSU’s throat, just gashing them badly for huge gains. You could see;
    FSU had no answer
    FSU was gassed
    We were controlling the clock
Then we come out flinging it all over the field with poor results and numerous 3 and outs.
Astonishingly, Johnson was not played much in this quarter or half.
Why in the world did we change up? Why not keep mashing it until they stop us?!
    Why, why, why?
I cannot rationalize this at all. Make them stop you before you change a strategy that is working. I have to think our O line was thinking they can’t stop us! Then perhaps they thought why did we stop running, we had them.
This reminds me when we played Liberty in the bball tourney. We were running away with the game in the 2nd half and Mike White decides to slow it down and we lost all momentum and lost to an inferior team. After that game, I had seen enough of White.
The decision last night could not have been a halftime decision as we know there has not been any cerebral planning in our halftimes.
    I’m kinda mad and confused!

Still scratching my head over that one!
We could have taken control of the game and ended up giving FSU all they needed to win by the 3 consecutive 3 and outs?
AR would have been much more effective with the running game working like it was?
I'm not a coach either so I can't answer your question.
There are many others on this board who asked the very same thing!

Etinne s brother asked the same thing mid game and he’s an NFL RB so your question isn’t a bad one, just may never get an acceptable answer. :(

Completely baffled. Holes had no answer for our OL and running game.

I think the answer is pretty obvious. But here we need to call it “building a culture”.

Maybe FSU changed up the defensive scheme to stop the run and AR went with the pass option? Coming out flat in the third has been a common theme all season.

Reminded of ole fat fulmer. Crushing first half, adjusts at halftime thinking we would adjust. Loses as he lost sight of what they did well.

Misplaced trust in AR's throwing. Perhaps BN thought fsu would adjust to stop the run so he would counter by throwing. AR is way to inconsistent passing to accomplish that. I think BN would agree his play calling in the third was not good.
However, I will still contend that our D or lack there of was the main issue as it has been all year long. That has to be fixed and soon!

I refuse to believe AR willingly checked into that horrible WR screen play.

every time we came out with an empty backfield, I cringed.

missing so many wide receivers forced us into more double tight end formations, but not surprisingly they were very effective.

Why? He appears to be lost in space on 3 or 4 plays a game on a pretty regular basis. Even fully developed QB's do stupid crap on occasion, why wouldn't AR?

If he hasn’t figured this out by this stage of his coaching career, it isn’t going to just happen over the course of his tenure here. This is really basic stuff we are talking about. It is far more likely that there is another dynamic at play in his mind that is overruling common sense football. What speaks volumes though is that he seems to repeatedly allow this mystery dynamic to override the data and results that are right there in front of him. This reflects very poorly on his overall coaching ability, as it most certainly should. It simply doesn’t matter what that thing is when your options are exhausted and you MUST play football with the cards you have. Basic stuff… not trying to overthink it.

Win first, work on style second. This isn’t rocket surgery.

    It’s not a good post, it’s a great post!!!

it just makes no sense. We Could NOT get into a track meet with them and by going completely away from our run game for 3 straight offensive sets we did. Defense got gassed and we had a track meet.
Johnson averaged 7.7 yards a carry the first half and the third quarter it’s like we forgot about him and went back to trying to be cute. Our identity is not cute.

For the second week in a row our coaching game plan was to try to go away from our strength.

My head was spinning in the same direction yours was. WTF is going on was a recurring theme for me in that third quarter - actually, to be honest it still is.
