Yes, your point is completely lost on me. I can imagine that somehow or other you believe that people are being hypocritical by using tweets when talking about twitter, but they're not. Care to explain?

No, I don't tweet much. Just peruse on occassion. I'm more of a Redditor.

Which laid off employees did Musk try to bring back?

Not if they’re already paying me what I would have been paid with the PTO payout.

Sure - if that's how it worked. But it isn't. It goes:

    "I want 100K and 5 weeks vacation. "
"100K is no problem and good news - we offer unlimited PTO!"

    NOT

    "I want 100K and 5 weeks vacation."
"100K is no problem, but unfortunately, we only offer unlimited PTO so we'll pay you 110K instead"

Twitter does seem to be working this morning, contrary to what one would believe scrolling through last night. I’m far from an expert on the industry and would defer to you, but there are a lot of layoffs all across the tech industry. Wouldn’t that impact the job prospects for software engineers?

Although probably an attempt at humor Elon actually hit the proverbial nail on the head with this tweet.

I do like twitter. Embeds video here better than anywhere. They make no money off me though. Don’t know how I’d make it viable. Ads on it don’t work on me.

Uncertainty about moderation (mostly individual brands) and what’s going to happen in the coming quarter.

The average salary at Twitter across all roles in the US is $273K per year including base, bonuses, and equity.

I suspect that the average is highly skewed due to the number including bonuses and equity for the top of the food chain

The onsite perks at these companies are hard to believe. 20 years ago I worked at Pepsi HQ. The food was so freaking good and subsidized (less than $10). The on-site gym was palatial and of course dry cleaning.
But that was 20 years ago and at a CPG company. Silicon Valley is on a different level. . To be on a campus like Google, MSFT and apple where you are the best of the best working for the best must be nice.

My daughter worked for Apple out there for three years. The building and perks were mind-blowing.

So why did she leave? It seems that the time demands can be monumental

If by "best people" we mean most technically competent and an asset to the work culture, those employees know they can compete. These are the same SW engineers that will be first in line during voluntary layoffs. Seen it over and over again.

I guess tech is all about long hours and the employees may have already been working hard. Getting a message about the need to be "extremely hardcore" would be pretty daunting, especially coming from a workaholic. I mean, I can see if you're working to meet deadline to build a rocket or comply with grants, but I obviously don't understand everything that goes into maintaining a social media platform.

A little overworked, tired of the commute from SF but mostly homesick. Been at JPM Chase back here in Chicago for three years. She’s two blocks from the train and 10 minutes to work. The work is not as exciting but life here is easy.
