Well, it turns out there is better drama behind the scenes than in their movies.

The Great American Family network will be an alternative to Hallmark but without the 1% offering of gay storylines. Apparently 100% straight is better than 99% straight movie lineup.

Why can’t we just have nice things?

The horror. You still have hallmark to watch gay love stories, so what's the rub? No one is forcing anyone to tune in and watch the alternate channel. And she's always been open about her values. That's not news.

It wasn't even a movie, these dorks got mad just because of a commercial with a gay couple on the channel

That new channel is a "where are they now" of my adolescent crushes, at least one of them has the excuse of being a convicted felon with few options

I’m much more concerned to learn that there is now another channel with trite, cliche plots and two-dimensional characters for Mrs. Taipan to punish me with during the holidays. “See, why can’t you do things like that?!”

If you've seen one hallmark movie, you've seen them all. Snow and plaid shirts lol

Funny story. When my son was young (he's 35 now) I used to take him to a playground at an Evangelical church near our home. On one of the visits I found a flyer apparently distributed to the church's parishioners urging them to boycott Ikea because the furniture chain was running a commercial featuring a gay couple shopping at an Ikea store.

Another characteristic: You can usually identify the “good” man and the “bad” man within the first 15 minutes. Zero complexity or nuance.

Decades ago my wife used to watch Lifetime and our friends would call it “the bad man channnel”. Now my wife’s tastes have evolved to an eclectic mix of reality shows (every real housewives ever played), college football replays and true crime/48 hours type shows.

And even that’s almost too complicated.

My wife watches all the Housewives BS, too. I feel your pain there. Much of being married for a long time involves finding things you can identify with in each other. And there is just no reality where I could ever identify with a bunch of ladies who lavishly spend their husbands earnings and incessantly whine while doing it.

Not to mention "Married at First Sight" and the rest of the genre.

I do find the immense popularity of the Hallmark genre fascinating. In the streaming wars, Peacock has put down that marker. Always interesting to see what the various platforms will do to "lock in" subscribers

Yeah, but the dudes love it too. There's nothing good about these trophies that can't be duplicated with someone who is actually cool. But the cool ones won't put up with these clown dudes, so the housewives are really just supplying an uncommon commodity and can command top dollar. Good for them, run that business at max profit.

Also, Hallmark is possibly the gayest thing on TV. They might think going the non-flaming route fools people, or more likely they are just providing cover for all the closeters. I suppose the newbie will certainly be a contender and maybe even more aggressively-repressed, but that'll be a tough battle.

The only thing we watch together is college football. She watches tv in the bedroom and I watch tv in the family room.
