1st half was most complete half of Gator football in quite a spell until the last 2 minutes. Fake punt after TO by Gators. Had to be punt safe call and emphasis on not jumping offside during TO. Reckon busted coverages happen. Last Gator possession before end of half mystifying. Certainly penalty negated scoring opportunity. Appreciate desire not to gift the cocks anything else before half particularly since they got the ball to start the 2d half, but confused as to last few plays. Line up to kick a very long field goal (with block and run back dangers) then take a delay? Agree should not kick, but why even pretend?
Rk, Yeah, UF left 10, 17 points on the field, which in some respects, demonstrates the potential this team has. Considering Vegas had us at what, 8,9 point favorite? If you had asked me before the game would you be happy with a 32 point dub.......I would have happily bumped fists.
I’m glad he changed his mind on on the field goal. What we didn’t need was a kick/6 like Auburn pulled on Bama. That would have ended the half terribly.
When the passing game is cleaned up, these end of half/ end of game clock issues will clean themselves up.
We developed a bad habit over the last few years of not putting games away early when given the opportunity. I’m sure this is one of the remaining items left on Napier’s culture improvement list.
I believe CBN is very aware of AR's confidence level. CBN has seemed to focus on getting AR playing with confidence this whole year, and gradually we've all seen improvement in AR's confidence, decision making, and execution (although there remains issues to clean up). IMO, CBN would rather play conservative at the end of the half to avoid the deflating effect to AR's psyche of a critical error made in our opponents half of field. That's my take on it.
I've commented on this a number of times - end of half has been really bad this year. No matter what Billy has done, aggressive or conservative, it just hasn't worked out. I'm beginning to think that this is a combination of just bad luck on his part, and that the team itself and most notably its quarterback, gets tight and nervous in the 2 minute drill. So I think Billy wants to be more aggressive - but his lukewarm about committing to it given how bad the defense has been up until the last two weeks and how inconsistent his QB has been.
Our offense isn’t designed for quick strike. CBN is heavily reliant on the run and he seems to not be able to get out of that mindset. I’m not even sure if it’s scared money, moreso that this is his offense and he’s running his offense. Our passing game scheme (plus some AR) also isn’t up to speed. The route trees are mediocre, and CBN has historically shied away from 11 personnel. AR also isn’t good with check downs which often gets good yardage in 2 minute drill
58/60= 97% Almost every team would be happy with that! (Insert they said there be no math posts next)
