Sort of, yes. The offense can do the same thing, but it did not.

Only if you are talking about the 2 possessions the ended in ints.

Otherwise our possession count on offense and our ability to run more plays was directly limited by our 3rd down futility on defense

The coaches decide at halftime that we can win the game by making adjustments and focusing on the running game, which they did rather successfully in the 2nd half. No need to take out our QB who can pose a threat running if our team is going to focus on the run. Napier wants to win the game while keeping the locker room, something we didn't have last year. As a note, i enjoyed or 'liked' the game, especially in the 2nd half (besides the 3rd down breakdowns on the next to last drive by Mizzou). I also believe that the collective think concept, which some here believe exists, is foreign to me. When someone like Die posts "what should WE think". it's absurd. So when you speak about the game WE like to watch.. IMO, you are speaking for yourself.. Notice i didn't say In Our Opinion. I guess posters believe their opinion carries more weight if they represent they are speaking for the collective instead of themselves.

Wrt the way AR carries himself look no further than where he played HS ball. The school is know for having some runs of great athletes that are known front runners. The program historically lacks the steely determination to overcome adversity.
AR is a freakishly athletic individual trying to play QB. His entire football existence he has been the biggest best on the field albeit in unstructured programs

He is at his best when moving and throwing to open players b/c the defenses bust due to his mobility. He is throwing downfield more often than game 1 but is nowhere near efficient when forced into a pocket passing role.

Look for more teams employ this approach. This is a season where I believe using qb2 (whoever that is) would be beneficial for a series if AR sputters during the course of a game.

Oh stop it. I said no such thing on my post.

We had 1 play over 10 yards in the first half - we were awful. We were better in the 3rd and settled in the 4th...so your comment doesn't even apply.

The fact that he never ran the ball in the first half is telling.

What I mean is, we could have gone on 12- to 15-play drives that resulted in TDs, whereby the defense rested more and Missouri presumably resorted to much more passing. Which could have resulted in better outcomes for the defense.

    We plainly did NOT.

Nothing wrong with your assessment. The real question is, is the offensive coaching staff paying attention, or are they...?

If I may assist, what you are saying is basically what is my real concern, it worked and and so...Napier is a GENIUS! How about the very real scenario where AR continued to look ineffective - remember, I said after his first drive of the second half - and it cost us the game. Are you sure your rhetoric would be about the same? Methinks it would be somewhat angry. Think Missouri = Kentucky. Do you want to rekindle your experiences and posts after the Kentucky game?

I am perfectly fine with my assessment. IMO, Napier dodged a HUGE bullet by either being "bold" or "convicted" or "oblivious" or "naive". I will take the win but damn, what a shot!

There is a big difference between watching the game above the playing field in the stands or on the tube and being on the field with 22 big, fast bodies flying around and 4 striped shirts in the midst of all that. And all that at ground level.
We should remember that when in all our infinite wisdom we break down the game plan and analyze our team’s performance.
Sometimes things don’t go according to script because there is a big body impeding your route or the player you are supposed to block has pulled to another area of the field. Some of the “missed tackles” we see are because the time the defender gets 2 or 3 fingers on the ball carrier he is flying full speed downfield.
That’s not to say we’re are playing at a high level now, but we are making progress. We just beat a team that is as stubborn and difficult as a Missouri Mule ( pun intended) and at this stage of the process I am happy.
I do wish we wouldn’t schedule these guys for homecoming so often. That would irritate me if I were a Mizzou guy.

Point I tried to make but did so poorly is that ill take 3 star safeties 3 star linebackers that are actually playing their natural positions if they are being coached up in a coherent and tenured program/coaching regime. Kelly has 4 years now with his organization in place. We know Kelly has good s
Yup, which is why discipline and technique is critical in football. Athleticism can make up for it but only somewhat. Things like leverage, foot work, hip rotation, discipline etc are necessary in a game where staffs scheme against you using elite athletes. A split second is all it takes to miss a tackle or get burnt by a route

I was surprised to see Perkins whiff badly there. I know GNFP’s been high on him getting more reps, but that looked bad.

Actually, since Chip Kelly got there, UCLA's recruiting improved substantially. Every season except his first, UCLA's star average is in the 3's. Not that hard. Kansas and Kansas State, OTOH?

We're already seeing the young safeties emerging. Hopefully a few more games and they will be solid.

My opinion is this staff knows exactly what they've got. They have quite a few players they are working to replace at the top and are doing that as carefully and as quickly as possible while preserving wins, often with unconventional methods.

Imagine trying to change the program, change everything, repair deficiencies, all while recruiting as if your life depends on it.

Compare that play to the bama safety covering back in the flat at the end of the game. That is the current disparity we are trying to close it is a great wide chasm at the moment

When did he arrive? Since 2019 per rivals best class was 33rd. Last cycle was like 80th with only 14(?) signees and this cycle trending the same. Maybe they took some portal difference makers? There is a site that track portal transfers but I couldn’t find it. At any rate, the question of if they are doing it with “sub par” classes by service ranking and developing players above their perceived potential would be great to know.
